Friday evening I noticed that my L405 was slightly bumpier and noisier than normal .. lo and behold one of the rear dampers was busy dripping its contents all over my drive. The 2 nearest dealerships unable to help until the middle of next month, so fingers crossed with a local chap ...

Well I checked all the fuses on my Defender, found one that was blown (no idea what it did), replaced it, but the headlights still didn't work. Realised that each headlight has its own fuse, so if both are not working not likely to be a fuse anyway.

Toyed with the idea of tracing the fault myself, even bought a current checker thing with electrodes, but rapidly saw sense and called in a proper Land Rover person.

He spent two days checking the circuits and ended up finding a short, and replacing the light switch.

I now have lights!
Headlights have both gone again.
Apparently the dim/dip switch is made of chocolate and melts, thus fking the headlight circuit....

Since it's new gearbox.
Mines has been behaving itself.
5k without issue, change in work has me doing more motorway driving so the range is getting better as well.
Closing in on 166k so not a young car.

Whilst idling in neutral with the clutch up, I noticed a faint rumbling, rattling noise from the area of the gear stick.

Instant LR paranoia set it - what the fk is that? Was it making that noise before? Is it something new? I dipped the clutch as the noise stopped, then returned as I let the clutch out again.

Googling symptoms seems to suggest that it is a worn gearbox input shaft bearing.

Car is 7 years old and has done about 60,000.

Is a worn input shaft bearing a known 'thing'?

fk.

Don’t know about input shaft bearings in particular but I’m fairly sure chocolate gearboxes on the Puma are a thing

Finally got rid of the wife's Evoque. Various things went wrong with it in the 3 years she had it, heated seats stopped working, centre console packed up, touch screen failure, radio failed so it needed a new aerial, stop start failing to restart the engine and finally the drivers door lock mechanism failed. The car was a 64 reg so not even that old but I pity the fool who buys it!

2016 vogue - so many faults i’ve lost count. Mostly electrical but ‘old school’ coolant fault today. Total loss of coolant, no warning.

It really can’t continue.

MY2012 D4 50k miles - oil leaking from one of the from lower wishbone bush. Had it checked, its not coming from the engine components above, so definitely coming from the bush. Replacement going on next week.

My new to me yesterday 1997 P38 4.6 V8 HSE

£1550 bought.

50 miles away on the way home broke down! This might be a record!

Taken off the M25 by one recovery company. Then onto another truck and back to home 250 Miles! Truck was too big to go up my drive 1.5 miles so had to drive it up. Noisy and slow. This morning another truck came to take it to my local garage. Couldn’t get to my house again. Drove it down. Now at the garage and told the front drive shaft has broken.

Expect to spend around 1k to get it working right.

En route to the menders to see if they could work out why my headlights are not working, stopped for a queue of traffic, than BLAM!

Someone in a Nissan Pathfinder (big SUV) failed to stop and rear-ended me (not in a good way either).

Got out to inspect the damage, expecting a caved-in rear end as a minimum, surprised to see absolutely no sign of damage to my car, not even a scratch, and a Land Rover NAS-Rear-Step-with-Tow-Bar-shaped hole in his plastic front bumper where his crumple zone had absorbed all the impact.

Land Rover, all is forgiven!

£400 and back in the road. Going to look at tyres and tracking as every now and again when it hits a bump by hell does it jump about!

Freelander 2, Td4 150 my2013, 46k miles.
Been in to dealer 5 times in last 12 months for restricted performance which wouldn’t clear by switching off back on.
Broken electrical connector
Replaced wiring harness section
New egr valve
No fault found
New turbo
Each time done under warranty. With a range of replacement cars, Evoque HSE, Jaguar XF awd, FPace then last time Discovery Sport HSE. 26 days in total.
Can’t fault Land Rover Assist and the service desk.

Strange squeaking sound from somewhere under the car, increasing with revs.

Front drive shaft universal joints were shot, in spite of them being greased religiously.

The yellow warning light has been on in my D3 for a couple of weeks. However the car was driving normally and suspension was rising and falling as it should.

Because the car is only really used at weekends, if its driving normally it can get ignored for a a few weeks. However, we had an issue with OH's car and we have a three month old and a 3 1/2yr and we suddenly only had one car and that was my ageing Disco with its warning light.

I was worried that the compressor had burned out and I would be in for a new compressor. Wasn't the case. The wiring round the cross link valve had been very badly repaired at some point and at one point I thought I was going to have to write the car off as the garage wouldn't give me an estimate of how long it was going to take to fix it. A new loom is around £1200 and its quoted as 'several hours' to fit and my D3 has done 183k and isn't the tidiest of examples, so I was prepared to break it for spares.

The garage did agree that it was touch and go weather they could repair it. In the end we agreed to three hours labour and he would give me a call. Turned out they fixed it in four, so I can't complain too much.

It needs belts and oil pump in October. That will be another £800-900 and that's just a service. Not sure what 2019 means for the D3. The TC is probably on its way out, so I may replace that, but I also want a decent steering guard, tints and replacement of the standard stereo and to do that properly is £1300.

Whatever happens, I'm in for the long haul, as I have had to replace Mrs Bakerstreet's car earlier than planned, so now she has the modern comfortable and hopefully reliable car.

Right, at the weekend it finally happened.

Self locking. When the keys are out of the ignition, and the doors are closed, all the doors lock themselves automatically. I have always hated that feature, and normally make sure a window is open if the keys are out of the ignition.

Exploring a drying lake bed, in the middle of nowhere, my buddy used the key fob to open the back door to get something from the car. He put the keys down on the floor of the load area. The door swung shut. The, Click! all the doors locked themselves.

All our stuff - phones, radio, equipment, tools, was inside the car. All we had was a shovel and a knife and a bit of broken office fan that was on the ground. All we could think of doing smashing the little rear quarter window and fish the keys out with the broken fan.

Why why why did the bd LR designers think that self locking was a good idea? s. I will now have make sure there is a spare key secured somewhere outside the vehicle, as it is bound to happen again. Any other ideas for not getting locked out of your car?
