My ex misses' parents' Freelander Mk.1 decided one cool spring day that enough was enough and promptly set fire to itself and burned right to the ground.

There was no parking on long dry grass with a hot exhaust after a lengthy drive, oh no, I mean this was in the morning, after breakfast, the misses looked out the kitchen window and there Mr Freelander was doing its best to impersonate Hellraiser.

Wtf, they are sh*t though to be fair.

However, in the spirit of this thread, I just replaced a mudflap as the old one had split.

Defender Td5.

Radiator was leaking slightly.
Intercooler practically had disintegrated.
Viscous fan had developed a wobble.

All replaced so that's peace of mind for the time being.

Just replaced UJ in front prop. The symptoms were a strange twittering noise when coasting down. It sounded like a gang of budgies were expressing their displeasure at being caught in a Landy. Upon dismantlement, 7 bearings were nice and greasy and free-turning. 1 was dry and full of brown dust and looking very sorry for itself. It was a bit of a pain having to work on it without a ramp or hoist. Laying on my back, in the dirt whilst trying to feed my arm over the crossmember was an interesting and unpleasant experience but its done now.

My Defender has developed a new fault! Yay!

When I let out the clutch in first gear it does a horrible juddering thing for a few moments. Not always, and usually when the engine is hot.

Does not feel right at all.

Hesitant to post this and anger the Bork Gods, but...

2014 FL2 Dynamic now on 52K

Nothing whatsoever has gone wrong with it. They do say it's the most reliable LR product which kinda bears out my experience so far.

.....Waits for impending haldex and rear diff catastrophic failure ! hehe

A new one I've not heard of before.... which left me stranded 10 days ago.

2010 FFRR 5.0 S/C - borked transfer box, and smoothed worn output spline shaft from gearbox.

Refurbed transfer box, rebuilt gearbox, labour and various fluids, etc... £4k bill.

Wow. Did the damaged transfer box cause the spine to wear?

I don't believe so, not by the looks of the gearbox shaft splines, they just look to have worn away. Apparently this joint is not greased in factory.

I instantaneously lost drive pulling away from stop about 10 days ago with unpleasnt gear mashing noises if trying to drive. Recon transfer box required, mine was all bust up. It was when they took off old transfer box they saw the lack of splines on the gearbox shaft, it was almost smooth at the end. They sent the gearbox away for a rebuild to get a new output shaft fitted. My garage always grease this joint when assembling to prevent the spline wear.

Since last report in Dec 2014, another rear wheel bearing and new battery. Latter wasn't a failure, so preventive maintenance.

EGR valve had a temp spasm of sticking, but a good thrash and another Basil Fawlty threatening seems to get things running better.

Next service will be a big one. Cam belt, water pump and all the usual. Drain refill gearbox, front transfer box, might treat to new shockers again. 2010 FL2 108k. Off tarmac everyday.

Noticed oil spinning out Catherine Wheel style from one of my front wheels.

Turned out to be a knackered axle oil seal that was leaking oil from the front diff everywhere.

Fortunately a quick fix.

Not sure we need a wagon this big anymore, so it's probably time to sell it: if I get a moment I'll tot-up the bills from the full 8 years/90k miles we've owned it. I suspect they will add up to something close to the purchase price...
