Trip to Africa
Discussion
Hi All,
Me and a mate are looking to taking part in an event which will start in Budapest and end in Bamako.
Looking for advice on which vehicle to take, budget is around £5000.00 as it will probably be left in Africa.
The short list so far
Discovery 2
Range Rover 2003
Toyota Land Cruiser
Nissan Pathfinder
Subaru Forester XT (unlikely now)
All of the above have taken part in this event before.
90% of the trip will be on road, dirt tracks and desert, the rest could be full on off road.
We want to avoid modifying the vehicle as much as possible, however fitting roof racks, lights etc etc is not a problem.
Thoughts/ advice
PS it NEEDS to have AC

Having driven in Africa I can tell you that land cruisers are the weapon of choice by the locals.. land rovers are seen as comfortable but not reliable whereas the opposite seems true for older land cruisers.
However for £5k I'd look for as modern a land cruiser as you can buy. Parts are widely available for both it would seem.
