Im currently selling a 65 plate RRS, good spec, low miles and its priced the lowest on the current market by some margin, but all I get are traders offering low figures without seeing the car. Ive not had one serious private buyer call me in 3 months.

It appears people are afraid of buying a car at £51k privately, despite the car comes with the remainder of the 3 years manufacturers warranty and the next 4 services free also? I know finance can be an issue, but I do know a broker that can finance a private purchase and have added that in the advert, but it doesnt appear to help.

Any thoughts, is this just a perception thing? would you have any issues buying a car privately, if it came with warranty and finance was available from the UKs largest car finance broker Oracle?

Be interested to know your thoughts.

Cheers
Mike

I sold my 2015 HSE standard bog spec car with 24k miles for £55k to a private buyer in March. He took finance from someone I introduced him too as well. Was painless. Where have you advertised? Mine sold on ebay with NIL enquiries via Pistonheads!

It because most peeps don't have £50k lying around and need to finance.....and prefer the confidence of buying from a dealer and keeping it all in house, plus part-ex etc.......

This. 99.999999% of buyers will need some help in their transaction. The 0.0000005% of what are left can't be arsed with being fleeced by "minority" part time dealers so you're left with a tiny 0.0000005% who would actually try and root out a genuine seller bargain by an honest seller.

That's before you consider what type of people try and sell a £50k Range Rover for cash, and how you consider the type of people not willing to deal with those sellers.

Allegedly.

I have bought a few relatively expensive cars privately and prefer this way as you can meet the actual owner and get a feel for if it has been looked after, as well as saving money on buying from a dealer (which offers no real benefits as a cash buyer and if the car is still under warranty).

The bottom line is it always comes down to price, a quick check on webuyanycar gives a good idea of the the trade price and most buyers will be looking to pay closer to this than what a dealer is selling for. I had a look at your car on Autotrader and there are a number of similar ones for sale (including at LR main dealer) for more or less the same price.

For a sale, you really have to stick £2k or £3k on top of the trade offer and there is a good chance it will sell. Also it is depreciating every month so the longer it takes to sell....

OK, my thought is that you need to be under the price that approved main dealers are setting - for example a car in South Wales with similar mileage to yours and it's around £48k.
Don't get me wrong, yours is a lovely example, but you can't offer part exchange even if Oracle can arrange finance. Plus people may perceive that a dealer offers more security than a private seller - approved used has a 2 year warranty, for instance.

I think your Autotrader ad would benefit from a few more photos too - the boot space one is blurry. I have no idea what dealers have offered you, but it looks to me like you're about £3k optimistic. Just my thoughts - good luck with your sale.
