Velar's D300 or P300?
Discussion
Giving some thought to getting a Velar & looking at either a D300 or P300. Clearly the diesel gives better economy, but works out around 2K more spec for spec. Either on paper give better economy than my current old RRS. Any thoughts on which is better choice? A 2l 4cylinder petrol chucking out 300bhp just sounds wrong & sounds stressed.
I can give you feedback on D300 when I get mine on the 6th - it’s same engine in my current car and am expecting high 30's in terms of fuel, I also think they make a decent noise from inside and have plenty of stress free poke.
I have had a go in the P300 in a Jaguar, very smooth engine and missed how smooth a 4 cylinder petrol sounds and are these days even compared to a V6 diesel, fuel will be no where near as good though and I reckon you’d struggle to average 30mpg in it. They have lots of torque so aren't that frantic to drive - and I am torn as to whether I should have got one.
In terms of demonised diesel - they are EU6 so not a worry for a fair few years yet.
