I was having a poke around in preparation to fitting the tow bar when I saw the nearside rear above said item not attached. The bolt was absent and as such the shock absorber dangling. Now, I've not really noticed any body roll. I've got another one I'll whip on tomorrow but do they actually do much?
Just wondering really!!

Mike, not quite the same but I investigated a strange knocking at the rear of my classic to find the off side shock had snapped and was dangling, occasionally hitting the mount hence the noise. Can't say I noticed any change in the drive. Now I've replaced both again no real change. Mine is on air as I assume yours is. So to answer your question, not a lot it seems.

Assuming you're talking about a Defender County or Range Rover Classic, they're a Boge self-levelling unit.

When in good condition, they work very well. My Defender had one, but I was recommended to remove the tired unit and replace with heavy-duty rear springs instead.

That has worked fabulously well but I would say that you'd lose a fair bit of ride comfort on a Range Rover if you did the same thing, so I'd replace the unit on that.
