I have a Discovery Sport (L550) HSE Luxury. It has just had its first MoT, done about 22,000 miles. I’ve had the car for 18 months, before which it was owned by LR GB. I assume it was used as a demonstrator/loan/staff car. It’s been trouble free so far.

Recently, I’ve noticed it has started to make a strange noise:

  • I can describe it as a shuffling sound, or as if the wheels are spinning on gravel but I don’t think they are.
  • It is not very loud
  • It lasts for maybe a second or so
  • It happens when pulling away from a slow speed
  • It seems to happen mostly when pulling out making a left turn, but not exclusively
  • It’s coming from the rear of the car, I think.
  • It doesn’t happen all the time.
At first I thought that maybe something was sliding around in the load space but this is not the case.

Any thoughts, ideas, advice will be gratefully received.

Not sure of any help but I know there have been some cars affected by fuel slosh in the tank when half full, it sounds like a bump and a low sloshing noise due to missing baffles in the fuel tank. Other thing I could think is is possibly a fault with the electronic handbrake engaging?

Thanks JDW,

The noise remains! I don't think it is the fuel sloshing around as it doesn't sound like liquid is the cause of the noise. I'm wondering if its the diff or something else wrong with the transmission in the rear end. Looks like I'll be off to the ;local LRMD. Glad it's still under warranty!
