Thinking of buying one but have a question about sat nav, do the turn directions pop up in the instrument panel or do you have to read them off the central display? Thanks.

nav instructions do pop up in the drivers display in between the speedo and rev counter or power meter if your chosen car is a hybrid . just be aware that the nav is not google maps , actually its not bad when you finally get used to it !

Thanks. This is on the clunky old system, right? I'm coming out of a 2015 BMW with HUD and I'm dreading it a bit to be honest, the iDrive is pretty good really.

One of the reasons (the other being poor build quality) I sold my 2016 RRS. The nav and infotainment is so slow to respond, occasionally it doesn't respond at all. My friend just got a 2018 model and even though it's far quicker it still freezes numerous times.

The nav instructions does pop on the binnacle display but only when it's closing in on the junction/roundabout. It doesn't display there otherwise.

The RRS does ride far better than X3/X5 though.

I've got a 2016 RRS and never had a problem with it. I use it most days and so far it has never let me down.

Thanks chaps. How far in advance does the binnacle display give until the next turn? For example in my HUD it'll say something like 5 miles until the next turn, does the RRS do something similar?

It flashes up as you get fairly close to the next turn - no idea how far but certainly not 5miles. 1/4 mile, maybe.
It's always been long enough for me to know to make the turn, though.

I came into the RRS from an Audi with HUD - I thought I was going to miss it but to be honest after one day I'd forgotten about it!
I suppose if I had a RRS with HUD I'd want to keep it going forward as I was used to it, but since it's a different driving position and general arrangement I didn't find I needed to adapt to life without a HUD.

Thanks mate, appreciated. In know it sounds daft but the HUD is just brilliant and my frau loves it, we travel a lot overseas and find it invaluable. When I first starting using it I was a bit indifferent to it and just switched it off but now it's almost a deal breaker. Daft really.

No worries - I felt the same, but since hardly any RRS came with the HUD I bit the bullet - I really don't miss it, though!

FWIW I think I've worked out the distance the map comes up on the dash before a turn:

Motorways - 1.2miles
A Roads - 650yds
B Roads - 450yds

Plenty of time to react in each situation!

Really helpful, thanks again. I found one RRS last week with a HUD but the interior looked like it was owned by Edward Scissorhands, it was just scratched to feck. One thing I did find interesting was that it didn't have a speed limit display which I've also found really helpful overseas. No substitute for the Mk1 eyeball of course. Anyway, I've found another car but we can't get to see it until mid-Oct which is really frustrating as we suspect it'll have gone by then. This one is a bit newer and has the updated infotainment with a speed limit display. Fingers crossed it's still there by 13th Oct.

I have owned one for 2.5 years. When it works it’s lovely. An autobiography dynamic trim has been super comfortable on long trips.
It’s when things go wrong all too often that my experience of dealer service and LR suppport has been poor. So much so that I won’t buy another.
I have never expereinc d anything worse than a LR dealer.
Such a shame. A reliable car or a better dealer might have made the difference.

mainly electrical related, just impossible to get prompt attention for warranty work. 8 weeks notice for service. quick on the phone to seek additional unnecessary work, didn't respond to other calls. Suspect JLR customer services and warranty team dont exactly help the dealers.
