Defender Rear NAS Step - Rust.

Rust on the NAS step. Quick question. I have removed the rear nas step to re-paint it.

Do i get it sand blasted and powder coated or do i get a couple of tins from Buzzweld and do a 2 stage tin jobbie with rust treatment and a top cover?

Also the Nas bars have lots of surface rust, will sand blasting sort that or will i be better to angle grind the surface rust off?

Personally, I would wire wheel that and paint it with Buzzweld or have it blasted and painted with Buzzweld. I wouldn’t use powder coat.

Powder coat should be made illegal for use by Land Rover accessory makers. The best way to make something look decent for 12 months while it's happily corroding to dust underneath.

Removing the remaining powder coat is going to be a demoralising task. I tried on my side steps with wire wheels and gave up. Blasting would be the answer but you are likely to end up with a pitted horrible surface afterwards that might need some filling and flatting to get smooth enough for a decent paint finish. Not sure how much a NAS step costs, but would seriously consider just buying a new one. There is a chap near us with a galv one, I'd be looking for one of those and T wash it and paint with Buzzweld.
