We noticed drops of water leaking into the passenger side from the top of the windscreen. A quick Google search revealed this to be an issue with the Evoque.

I booked it into Autoglass for remove and reseal (£200). When I arrived, the technician told me there was a 50/50 chance the windscreen would crack on removal and a replacement would be £1,000.

He also told me this is a known problem at Jaguar Land Rover caused by the silicon not bonding to the glass. He had replaced several Discovery windscreens under warranty due to this issue.

He suggested I refer this back to JLR even though it is not under their warranty.

So the car is booked into a JLR dealer in two weeks for inspection and I shall be pressing hard for a reasonable JLR contribution towards replacement. It has a full main dealer history which I hope will help with any goodwill issue.

My view is that a bonded windscreen less than five years old should not be failing.

My 2016 evoque has just done the same thing. I still have extended/approved warranty but it doesn’t seem this is covered. Have you made any progress with Land Rover?

Leaky Defender owners have been using captain tolley's creeping crack cure for years.

Run a very small bead around the glass to rubber joint and it will wick in and dry, sealing the joint.

I bought my 66 evoque in January have been having same problem water leaking onto passenger seat when raining only just got it in with landrover under warranty because of covid they run 3 water test said there is no problem although I showed them pictures of wet tissue and water on seat they said just keep a check but that doesn't resolve the problem .Also while in management warning light came on so kept for 4 days to try resolve apparently the adblue pump had a fault so needed replacing although car has only done 20k googled to find out that this also is a common fault from 2015-2017 has anyone else had this issue with there's.

Windscreens don't just break; there's usually a reason for it. Yes, there is risk attached but experience allows you to identify an area which might be problematic. Other than that, the chances of it breaking are negligible.

Windscreens are bonded in with polyurethane, not silicone.

Have you had the car since new? I ask because if not, you would have to ascertain if it was the factory fitted windscreen, and not a replacement (which would be down to the installer).

Correct. It should be lasting three/four/five times that time.

I can advise on this. Went though it last year on an Evoque.

The car was not long out of approved used warranty and they said the issue wasn’t known / common on the Evoque (rubbish).

I simply stated that warranty or no warranty, a windscreen that leaks should not be expected on such a new low mileage car. It ended up going to Land Rover head office who said no to covering it. I was told by a rep that in simple terms, they are struggling and tightening their belt and won’t pay out for stuff like this, not under warranty.

It IS due to a manufacturer fault and should be covered IMO.

We ended up getting a 50/50 contribution. And they did manage to do it without cracking the screen so it was very cheap: £100 ish if I remember.

But they do crack usually so your contact was right.

Nope. I disagree.

Also, you would have to prove the windscreen fitted was the one the factory fitted (and that it hasn't had a replacement since that event).

I was told beforehand that they normally crack. A forewarning. It’s very likely. But ours didn’t and so the price was very low. Autoglass confirmed also.

They do not/will not. In the rare event where it has happened 'unexplained' it is usually because the fitter has overlooked a tight spot or simply made a mistake.

Trust me, I have successfully removed one-off windscreens worth thousands of pounds where everyone said what you were told.

It's not the glass. It is either how badly it was fitted or how it was removed that breaks it.

Fair enough ! But it being an LR, bad fitting is likely!

I am having the same issue. Water started with a slight drip over the driver's and passenger side of the windshield, which has now turned into a slow stream. The car is out of warranty so while it was in the LR dealership having a new turbo installed ($4000.00), which also seems to be a faulty Land Rover issue, I asked them to quote me on the windshield ($1500.00). Although the car is out of warranty, it's a factory installed windshield that is leaking from poor installation. I checked the internet and see this is another factory problem from Land Rover that they are well aware of. I called Land Rover in NJ and out of "goodwill", they offered to pay 20% of COST (not retail, that I'll be paying). Very disappointing that Land Rover does NOT back up their brand. Poor quality, poor business. I will never purchase a Land Rover vehicle and will make sure to tell everyone I know to NOT buy a Land Rover either.

With respect.
You've bought a car from a manufacturer that has possibily the worst reputation for reliability and service.
And now you're finding out why!

Yes, you should keep fighting. They’ll argue ‘out of warranty’ but you might get more out of them. Disgusting.

$1500 seems a lot as windscreen might not crack so it would be just a reseal.

Didn't want to assume from your forum name; what year is your car?
