Right here we go. It’s arrived. Absolutely love it. The 6 cyl D250 MHEV is near silent. The ride is sublime. I deliberately ordered this model as I loved the tyre to wheel ratio and the style. It has about £4.5k of extras including the full length sliding canvas roof. I was advised that the Nitra factory said my car was the last 110 to be manufactured with the air suspension as standard so that was a result. Marshall’s in Cheltenham have been superb to deal with and have honoured my original quote including a little % discount, a JLR a dog ramp and a days LR experience for the wife and I at Eastnor. The car even had 1/2 a tank of diesel so that’s knocked £500 off! We love this car. Happy to add more pictures or answer questions.

Well 48hrs in and this is probably the best car I have ever owned. Wife and I absolutely love it. It is more comfortable than our 64 plate L494 Range Rover Sport and has cost about a further £28k to upgrade by 8yrs. The fabric roof is brilliant as is the tech. Genuinely think this will be all the car we will ever need.
Apologies for more gratuitous pictures but trying to keep the thread alive!

Got it jacked up there I see smile

I didn’t know they offered a fabric roof option. Lovely to be able to open it on days like today but I’m unsure I would be brave enough to spec one for use in the longer term.

Yes the wife and I were trying to get an action shot. The fabric roof was a bit of a gamble. It opens further than a pan/tilt and my view was it would also be easier to access the rain drains for routine maintenance. I’ve been trying to find out what the care routine is. I’m going to avoid soap on it. Occasionally vacuum it and try and find out what waterproofing treatment to use on it.

My daughter has Downs Syndrome and loves the fact the roof opening reaches the back seats. I’m looking forward to buying stuff for it. Gloss black steps and OEM Country flaps being fitted by the dealer soon.

About 50 metres from my home in a B&Q car park is a Webuyanycar set up. There is a 2020 First Edition 110 with the Matt PPF Gondwana stone paint. It’s done 32000 miles and I was told they paid £59k for it. That car has wiped its nose basically. I don’t believe it was much more than that at new.

Well a week in and a few observations.
We didn’t get a free upgrade to the larger screen which I’m pleased about as the narrow screen fits between the cross bars neatly.
They have removed the following in I believe an attempt to save chips and other reasons:
No locking fuel cap. It’s just a twist off cap behind the flap that never locks.
The USB ports in the rear of the front seats have gone. They are in the back of the centre console.
Sunglasses holder in roof is deleted.
Soft close mechanism has been removed from the tailgate.
Air suspension no longer standard on all 110’s.

None of this bothers me as I love the car. Average fuel consumption over the first 400 miles is 31mpg. A high point was a 12 mile trip that returned 45mpg.

Looks lovely - which model/trim level is this?

It’s an X Dynamic S D250 MHEV. I really wanted the S spec wheels as I like the tyre to wheel size ratio and the X Dynamic has gloss black trim below doors and round the arches. Great to polish. . Santorini black, extended exterior black pack, Black headlining and folding fabric roof and BLIS

It’s being fitted with gloss black steps this week and OEM Country flaps. The dash beam and steering wheel were supposed to be dark grey but seeing as they managed to ensure ours was the last 110 manufactured with standard air suspension I shall forgive them.

I/we love it.
.

Haven’t put a sticker on a car for 37yrs but thought this subtle and appropriate.

The chips shortage and the constantly changing specs for models is what really worries me for buying one in the future.

I test drove one in August 2020, a D240 SE and loved it but I’ll never afford a new one in the spec I want.
So a used one is for me, but seeing stuff like the larger screen, digital dash and clear view mirror all being missing along with the air suspension is going to make it hard to find the car I want.

Hopefully the car is ideal for you and rewards you with as little hassle as possible.

It’s also nice to see the 3.0 engines can give really good mpg when you try.

The thing is with specs is that the deletion of certain options is a recent phenomenon. If you are or will likely be in the market for a used car then you can effectively pick the car that’s right for you. The main issue is price increases and the used residuals if you are looking at used.

I was going to place an immediate order for another this week but am holding off. The dealer won’t “price lock” the price on day of order like they did last time. My car cost me £60k (actually £58k) but if I order the same car with the same spec today it is £73k. It would likely be more like £77k when it was delivered next year and this is more than I would want to pay. I’ve turned down several offers of £75k for my car already. It’s not being sold.

I can get restless with cars and often have 4 or 5. I’ve sold my hobby cars ( 1 classic to go) and feel the defender in what initially is a lower spec is the car for me. So many upgrades and the aftermarket industry is booming if I get bored I’ll just buy something for it. An example is wireless phone charging, Powerful sell a 3D printed tray that sit perfectly on the centre console £75.00. The JLR option was £300+.

Does theirs do signal boosting? I had a 130 for a week with the boosting and it was magic, normally get two bars of 3G on my drive, but if I bunged my phone on the charger it immediately shot up to four bars. Impressive. No idea how it works but it is very effective.

Glad you’re enjoying the car!

Not sure 595 as I’m a bit of a Luddite and I quite like it that way. Your posts about your “company” cars are what got me into the idea of getting a Defender. I purchased an Approved Used RRS about 15 months ago and got a half day at Eastnor. My wife and I drove a 110 and loved it. What I wasn’t expecting though was how good on road it is. I also have a love of straight sixes (XK140 FHC and Triumph Vitesse owner) so the D250 MHEV was a plus over the 4 cyl.

Genuinely doesn’t feel like a downgrade from the RRS and gets absolutely loads of positive attention from people. The folding fabric roof is brilliant as is the technology.

Something I didn’t mention earlier is we only got one key due to chip shortage.

Glad you are enjoying it! They are so good on road and ridiculously good off road!

You will get a second key as soon as we can supply it - these shortages are a total pain across the whole industry (and not just automotive) but we will work our way through them.

I don’t care about the key as I know people are trying their best. The dealer has been awesome and I actually think I’ve built a good rapport with the salesman who has been promoted within the dealership now. The car is just fantastic……added bonus is we now get a free full day at Eastnor for us both so we can get JLRs car muddy.

I saw a metallic red 130, a new RR and new Sport in convoy with trade plates the other day near Ross. The 130 looked big but very, very cool. My insurance company reduced my premium by 30% when I switched from a £30 k RRS to the £60k Defender and also didn’t insist on a tracker so that shows a confidence from them.

Thought I’d pipe in, had my 90 Commercial almost a year and it’s been absolutely flawless.

Fantastic machine. My only regret is I didn’t buy it! Mine is contract hired through work so I’ll not see any benefit to the uplift in values.

I learnt to drive in a 110 many moons ago but would never have driven one daily nowadays as much as I love them, the new model is unbelievably good in this regard. The engine is a real highlight really wasn’t expecting it to be as smooth and refined.

Why is the model line up so confusing?

There is no defender 90 X-Dynamic S model (S only available in 110 format) but the SE model (available in 90 and 110) has a completely different spec depending on whether its a 90 or 110.

Think they try and offer a model that has what the buyer requires as standard. Then you just spec the extras that suit. I wanted an x Dynamic as I liked the “ look”. I wanted an S as I really dislike the other wheels and wanted more tyre less wheel. For some the XS model gives the look they want, ie diamond cut wheels, tilt/slide pan roof and colour coded trim. There is something for everyone if you look at it objectively. I also think it helps them streamline and maximise production and profitability.
