I'm looking for some general guidance on the market at present. Looking at a new petrol Vogue SE from a dealer, no finance just a straight purchase, in this current climate what sort of discount would be available on an unregistered stock vehicle?

Depends on spec frankly. 10% should be doable on a fatty espescially if diesel - petrol less so. Though you will get more if you take finance then cancel.

Thinking a bit deeper. How much is it and what is it?

A factory order via drive the deal may be better, and tbh a mildly used one might suit.

I would say wait until the end of the quarter, but with lockdown easing they may take the risk on holding out - depends on new reg targets.

I would assume a lot of stock was Westminster trim now, so maybe it's been sitting around a while?

We went into local dealers to order a D300 Autobiography Sport just before Christmas lockdown, knew what we wanted and was armed with CarWow quotes, they matched it and then we got another £6k finance contribution from JLR, plan to pay off after a month, in total it will work out to about a 12% discount, maybe could have haggled more but was happy with the price.

Depends exactly what you are after. There are some cars with bonus money against them so if you are flexible on spec/colour could be good few £k savings to be had against a factory order.
Funding adds £4k deposit contribution + starting today for the next week is another £1k so you would be mad not to take out even if you do pay straight off.

Congratulations. Enjoy. I have no experience of the new 300 diesel engine myself but have heard it is a very good match.

Not a FFRR, but I went into a dealer On Dec the 8th and ordered a new Facelift D300 MHEV Disco, which is due to arrive mid March.

After a bit of pushing they matched the DTD quote I took in which was/is around 10%.

If you are a cash purchase, bear in mind it's beneficial to take out finance to get the extra FDA/DC, then settle the finance immediately, else any discount you get will be less the FDA/DC.

My advice is to spec up exactly what you want on the LR website, then plug the spec into DTD, Carwow, Broadspeed etc to get their quotes. Then take that quote to the dealer and ask them to match saying you will buy there and then if they match and/or get close. They will come back with the usual bks of only being able to discount to a set 'matrix', but depending on their targets etc they are easily negotiable.

Unregistered stock vehicles are still treated as factory orders regarding VAT etc, so they have the same margins. It will depend how long they have had that new & unregistered vehicle and if they want rid versus a factory order. Thats the only varying factor that will determine if they will got full discount or not, so as others have said it may be worthwhile you going factory order to get exactly what you want.
