The £100 challenge – start a business
Discussion
Bought item for £100
Broke up, sold parts for just over £200, and good opportunity came up to buy 2nd item. Ended up being a bit of an eBay punt, but paid off as loads of spares came with it that I wasn't expecting. Current total profit just over £150, with lots left to sell - I'm fairly happy so far.
More to the point, I'm enjoying the challenge!

Just out of interest, is the venue a club anyway, so they already have bar and security?
Yep. Bar, security, etc all provided as part of the hire fee. It’s a tiny club, in the basement of a busy city centre pub. A proper old-fashioned dive. The hire fee is a nominal sum to guarantee the booking, really. The venue relies on bar take for their profits and we keep all the door money. This sort of thing is not by any means a serious business opportunity—doing it for a living doesn’t work at this scale unless you run a club every night in a variety of venues. This wee venture is only going to be once per month.
Feel free to have a nosey if you’re on Facebook or Twitter. Or come along if you happen to be in Glasgow …
Well, I'm finally up and running. Wish I'd gone down the Del Boy route now as it looks like a quicker way to make some money. It's going to be a long slog with the method I have chosen.
I'm guessing we aren't allowed to post links to our sites?
Given that I only have about £25 of my £100 budget left for marketing I would like to make use of the collective wisdom and creative talents on here to come up with some Richard Branson style (cheap) marketing ideas.
My website is aimed at those of us who like to go mountain biking, road cycling, skiing, snowboarding, surfing, kite-surfing as well as those of us who compete in motorsport, go on trackdays or like to modify their cars. So basically fun blokey stuff that's really expensive. The aim of the site is to save you money and to find cool products for you to buy.

Worth mentioning an idea I had when I was younger and jobless and on benefits, I approached local letting/property management agents, asked how their maintanence service could be bettered and offered to competitively quote for some work. Won my first job and with my last benefits payment spent about £50 worth of typical tools to do general work.
Each job took about 2/3 days and earnt approx £350/£400 on average and after 6 months of doing that I probably spent a further £30 on tools so £80 all together and the only other expense was petrol to get me to each property. Material costs were excluded from my labour rates.
Not a bad living, some weeks made about £1.5k

If only there'd been the £100 challenge then. You might have won with this!
