It'll be the employer who always gets fined - rather than the agent.

However, clients won't be happy to accept fines if they think the agent is wholly or partially responsible.

I haven't had any information through from HMRC about this yet, still waiting for it. I run a small ltd company, just myself and my partner are employees at present. The new system will be a bit of chore, as I usually do my payroll as and when I have the time (sometimes 2 or 3 months behind).

I currently use HMRC's PAYE tools software to work out NIC and income tax, and to do online EOY filing. I presume HRMC are updating/replacing their free PAYE tools to do the realtime submissions? Or will I have to buy some commercial software to do it from next year?

I am sure HMRC will or already have updated their system. I would strongly advise that you go to their website and read up on what is happening.

HMRC are issuing letters to all registered employers during the course of this month.

If you have 9 or fewer employees (as you do) then the HMRC PAYE tools will allow you to do everything required without buying commercial software.

The main issue is that you will need to do returns online monthly, subject to you being below an average monthly deduction threshold (I believe this is £1500 of total deductions)in which case quarterly returns will be permitted

I don't want to go off-thread as I have a question for you personally so will PM you.

Got all my letters from HMRC today. What a pretty flo chart!

Going to cost me £500 odd to upgrade my payroll program to cater for the one pension scheme with over 30 pensioners, and a higher annual maintenance charge too. So not best pleased. Thanks HMRC .........
