Other countries had tried similar policies successfully, including Spain — which has legalised 1.2 million people since the mid-Eighties

Well, it's done wonders for their economy hasn't it?

Amnesties have been done by all governments for asylum seekers/illegals they just won't admit it.

The bigger pictures that if you do this once, the expectation will be that you will do it again and again..

This only then encourages more to come and try their luck.

Why do you think there are camps of people in Calais?

No single reason.

That said, a large part is our inability to project a clear policy and carry it though.

The Australian experience is very relevant here.

I have helped someone come to this country from North Africa. It was done through the proper routes, very expensive and time consuming and extremely laborious. He has been a model tax paying citizen for about 4 years now, and has really got on in his career - helped enormously by his rare language and cultural skills when dealing with important Middle eastern clients.

His view, given everything that he had to do to get here is that he despises the fact that just anyone from the EU can just walk in. He despises the government attitude to clearly fake non-EU asylum seekers taking the easy route.

I reckon, given the amount of people that will have gone through the same hard process as him who live in London and eligible to vote for the mayor is that Lammy has done himself a lot of harm in saying that. And frankly I think he deserves any backlash that comes of it.

Our borders are our borders. There are processes to enable people to come here and share in what our country offers them. Our authorities have the right to decide who enters, and not just give in to a bunch of people that jumped a fence a while back because it is cheaper and easier to police ongoing.

What message does this send to the rest of them? Lammy should be removed from office.

I see he has been wheeled out again because of the grenfell tower fire.

He's on TV now saying it's the crime by the rich white people and the "community" will no longer tolerate it.

He's like a reverse racist...if that makes sense. I never see him stand up for a native person of this country - he comes across as a st stirer ever waiting for the downfall of middle class white people.

So,
We break every yardstick by which we measure eligibility for immigration, presumably don't even bother to check whether someone has form for rape, murder etc and hand all these illegal immigrants the right to live here.
Excellent thinking, sign me up.

You are aware he lost a friend in the fire? That's probably why he's speaking out now, rather than having been 'wheeled out '

Lammy's a cretin of the same ilk as Abbot. There's no "reverse racism" about them. Just racism.

I wonder how many of the 300k he'd want living next door to his two London houses that the taxpayer is funding through his expenses.

Absolute arse hole and parliament is worse for having self serving people like him in it.

I think he is being 'wheeled out' because he lost a good friend in the fire...
I know Owen Jones is hated on here but he did an interview with Lammy recently... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90beTDNyPUw

To me he doesn't sound like someone who is "waiting for the downfall of the middle classes" but someone who actually gives a st about the rights of those at the bottom and who is worried about the path the country is going down.

And BTW he is married to a white British woman..... which is a strange situation to be in for a 'reverse racist'.

You don't see the diff between 'my best friend is' and being married to someone?
C'mon.

It depends. Farage seems to get a lot of stick for being 'a little Englander', what nationality is his wife?

I'm just wondering in what way is he similar to Abbott...

p.s. Funny how often it is those with certain characteristics that receive abuse questioning their intellectual capacity...

Doesn't sound like it fits with description of a "bigoted racist little Englander" How odd!!
