My first guess is that I am not their target audience?

But I have tried to view these youtube channels and i just don't get the 'buzz'.

They originally started as spotters of supercars in and around London and did a fine job of putting the London scene onto a laptop/international audience but they have failed to progress. They drive fast cars and in many cases own them but they are not insightful or controversial. They make the idea of owning a supercar fking boring. Tedious videos of drives into London or inane ste spouted into camera in a traffic jam.

Sorry to diss the youth of today but ........

I'm afraid you are showing your age. I too feel the same way.

The guy who runs the SOL channel still lives at home with his mum and has strapped himself up on finance to pay for his Gallardo and an A1

If I remember correctly Drive (remember them?) Said youtube only paid £1.30-£2.60 per thousand views which made their model unsustainable . This is why Chris Harris and Harry Metcalfe use patreon to provide additional funding. This is also why muppets like SOL produce tedious videos of themselves talking to camera whilst driving round Watford in order to try and get the views to fund his cars

The guys in the second video look like a bunch of tossers. The first video was just boring.

I think it's an age thing, younger people have a different relationship with media. Look at instagram, small crap quality images liked by people you'll never meet.

I'm 45 and I get the first one, wouldn't go out of my way to see similar though.

The second I FF through to find something of interest... until it ended.

I have to say, Shmee really has these cars for himself, he provides an insight into owning these types of cars which is great for someone who may not get the chance to. Shmee has a business and he finds the cars all by himself, he's always had a great love for cars.

Maybe it's an age thing...

I'm 22 and do find them interesting particularly Shmee150, I've started watching "SeenThroughGlass" who is also quite interesting I think. I did start watching SupercarsOfLondon however I've gone off him as of late.

I think it appeals more to the 18-30 demographic due to the presenters/vloggers being of our age group therefore they have a similar outlook on things. If you look around most other motoring blogs/shows/vlogs are hosted by people 40+. Also being based on youtube it means we can pick it up and put it down as and when.

"Shmee" now gets press cars on loan and is currently doing infomercials for ESSO, so is making steps to becoming a more general 'journo' rather just a spotter and reviewer of his own cars.

As for the other chaps, compare their number of followers on YouTube/Instagram/etc to the number of paper magazines sold, and where the only current UK car review show (Fifth Gear) struggles to get a million viewers.

It looks like the SOL chap does marketing for several firms/brands on top of his blogging (and I'll agree that his recent switch to daily videos even if he hasn't done anything interesting means you have to pick and choose the content), plus it is easy to buy a Lambo if you live at home and spend every penny you earn on the car.

I think there is a market for both the Chris Harris one-video-a-month professional standard content and these boys with their quantity over quality "living the (schoolboy) dream" videos.

Edit for spelling....

YouTube is about building an audience, once you have a good following 3rd party sponsorship or native advertising is where people make there money.

I don't watch them, but I see the appeal. Most 16-21 year olds are normally in further education struggle to meet payments on their Corsa LE. These videos provide an element of escapism and show what is attainable if you work hard.

I don't know about anyone else, but I find Shmee pretty irritating. His vlogs are like watching CeeBeebies for motorists.

21yo here so I'm guessing I'm the target market for these channels...

I don't get them if I'm honest, too much about owning the cars rather than actually ragging them. Much prefer Mr Harris or mighty car mods.

But I really see petrolheads as two groups at my age:
Those who like supercars and Audi's, see cars more of a status symbol, only follows f1, owns a corsa LE or a audi a1.

And Those who love driving, Cars more of a love hate relationship with some crapbox while they save up for a trackday car. Follows all kinds of Motorsport, owns a dodgy focus or maybe some mildy sporty car which he struggles to insure but still mods, sometimes to the detriment of the actual car.. (Guilty)

Option one likes shmee and likes driving slowly around town or fast in a straight line. Usually works in retail or hr *shudder*

Option two likes ch vids and loves nothing more than a b road blast. Usually an engineer or scientist type.

Have a search for Essena Oniel... Apart from the fact she is an extremely for model, she ha recently started exposing the murky world of social media marketing.

She has edited the description of every single picture on her account to tell the truth behind the image. For example a nice picture of her in hot pants and a crop top allegedly after a work out... Is actually fake sweat and she only has that clothing on to show of some fake tan she was paid £800 to advertise.

Or another picture of her in a tight little dress... Where she was paid £400 to take a picture of herself in it and post #topshop... Her 500k followers (like my gullible wife) go ooooo I like that dress. And if only 1% of her followers go out and buy the £50 dress then top shop make £250k.

The views on videos and images do not necessarily make the money... But the number of followers and subscribers dictate why you will be paid to make the video in the first place.

I find those videos utterly bizarre. Nothing to do with driving the cars. They are just 'shiny shiny'. Schmee also, and this isn't his fault, has an annoying voice and an annoying face. He talks endless ste, which is his fault.

have to agree. I actually enjoy the way he goes round and highlights all the details on his cars, but for some reason he just winds me up.

Harry's Garage is much better!

One thing all of them have in common is how wishy-washy all of their statements on their cars are. They never actually give you any insightful information - it's so tedious! All they say is "it's red, it looks good", "it's so fast", "it's so loud", "it has 500bhp", "this bits alcantara, this bits leather"! Whereas Chris Harris, XCars, Drive, Evo and even Matt Farah all offer you a valuable insight into what owning and driving some of these exciting cars is like! I just to watch the majority of SOL and especially Shmee's videos but as of late I've became bored.

Literally no content of any worth to a driving enthusiast. But I don't think that's the market. It's for people who see cars as statements of wealth. It's all about the bling. 500bhp is more bling than 450bhp. That's the level of analysis that goes on. I find it genuinely cringeworthy. But I don't really see the point of supercars bimbling around London at night either. I drive in London sometimes. It's dull as st!
