Trying to cut a long story short.

I was contacted to fit vinyl graphics to a van. All work carried out but the customer who runs a valeting business said he wanted to do a 'special wash'
to make sure the vinyl applied stood up to this. He had concerns some vinyl letters were not sticking well so i went around to take a look, he was literally picking at the corners and pulling saying look they are not sticking well. (i didnt stick them with superglue!) The vinyl used is 5-7 years and ive fitting around 50 vehicles/fleet vans with no problems. i replaced 2 - 3 of the vinyl lettering.

After waiting for a few weeks i didnt hear back so rang him up and sent a few emails asking how he got on, if there are problems please send me images and i can contact my vinyl supplier. these were all ignored.

After 5 weeks i went around to say if you are happy please pay me if you are not ill remove them.

He didnt like it that i turned up and started getting quite aggresive, he lives with his parents and at one point his dad had to hold him back as he was chasing me around his car.

He was trying to make the point hes hasnt done the special wash, at this point i said do it now and ill watch. All was fine and i even did a video until he ran around one side and must have had the jetwash mm away from the vinyl as it lifted.

Im stuck now as i cannot remove them myself has the van is his property although in my t&c the vinyl is my property until paid.

Its very annoying as hes really got away with free signwriting which is great advertising and all over his facebook and website.

Do people think its worth the route of small claims, its only £210 but hes really got to me know....

Sorry it didnt end up as a short story.

Get on to his Facebook page and explain the situation to his 'friends' and potential customers...

1) go round under cover of darkness, just remove enough letters to make it look a st job. If you can leave it spelling something amusing, all the better (I'm reminded of the 'Canal Street' sign in Manchester, oft modified to 'anal treet'.)

2) Frozen sausages/lawn, it's the PH way. laugh

This is probably the best way.

What are your invoice terms?
What is your standard practice for unpaid invoices?

Im only a small business, invoice payments are within 2 weeks.

Social media is probably good but im not really amazing on it and im sure if a start i will just end up worse off
from false reviews etc.

Write him a 'Letter Before Action' saying he if he doesn't pay with 14 days you will be taking him to court. Then 14 days later file a small claims.

Can OP wait until the van is parked on a public street and then remove a letter or two? As if no damage caused, no trespass and the vinyl is stated as his property then unlikely for any comeback criminally you would imagine.

Sorry i did send the below last Friday. My worry is he will remove the graphics while its going through small claims.
Do you think the last few lines make it clear or give me a backup to claim my fee back if he removes after i have started the small court application?

Dear ****,

Invoice Number 2017-242, vehicles Graphics on VW Caddy Van registration ****

On 10th April 2017, I fitted vinyl graphics on your van as agreed, at a quoted price £210. After this date you expressed concerns on the lasting effects of the vinyl adhesion due to a coating you had applied to the van. On more than one occasion I asked you for photographic evidence of the areas of concern so that I could discuss this with my supplier. However, you failed to provide me with this evidence within the timescales agreed, or at all.

I visited you on 12th May 2017 to seek resolution of this matter or payment for the invoice issued on 28th April 2017. I offered to remove the vinyl but you would not allow me to do this; I also did not receive any payment. Furthermore, you acted in a hostile, aggressive and uncooperative manner. As a result, I have sought legal advice and support.

As of today’s date, 19th May 2017, I am granting you one week to remove all unpaid graphics on vehicle ****, this includes all side graphics, rear graphics including silver window film and front window graphics. If these graphics are not removed by the end of 26th May 2017, I will commence legal action for the unpaid invoice amount of £210 plus any legal fees. Please note that if the graphics are not removed by 26th May 2017, the full invoice amount, plus any legal fees will still be payable, even if the graphics are removed after the 26th May 2017.

This letter has been delivered by recorded mail; I have also hand delivered a copy to the above address.

Yours sincerely

Interesting approach - you value the labour and production skill at zero?

Presumably you have dated photographic evidence of your work so he can't do a sneaky last minute removal?

I agree with this. You've done the work, he should pay up regardless.

Well.... he took a video of me fitting it which hes added on youtube.

I did take photos on the day of fitting then some photos and a video when the 'special wash' was carried out (snowfoam and jetwash)

Why has he added it to YouTube? Promotional video for his business?

I would get screenshots of the page on YouTube, he obviously thinks enough of your work to use it as promotion for his own business!

Good luck, it needs doing before he tells his mates you do free graphics.

But please, please if this fails and you go the frozen sausage route, we want pictures !

As suggested above go to the small claims, if what you say is true then he doesn't have a leg to stand on.

I would go one further and use savemedia or similar sites to actually download the file.
