Hi all

I would be interested in some ideas for a low cost business to setup in a largely student populated city.

I live in a small/medium sized city with approx 60,000 students spread over 4 various sizes unis and colleges.

I have a city centre based small unit on an industrial estate plus a medium sized van.

What ideas, even wacky ones, do people have.
Fill the storage unit with weed, deliver it by van.

Friday and Saturday nights, run a shuttle service between the halls of residence and town. Pack them in, charge half what the mini cabs charge. Store in the unit the bodies of those that don't make it.

Store road cone headwear at the unit, deliver to campus by van and include delivery in the rental price.

Offer late night condom and alcohol deliveries.

Anything there appeal to you?

Breakfast delivery service. My locals now got 4 delivery drivers on a Sunday morning. Big fry up and no mess. Nice.

Best thing I can think of is to get a minibus and do uni hall - town runs....charge less than a taxi, and sell stuff to them on their way. They will likely buy alcohol from you on the way especially if in shot form wink

Then on the way back you could do the same with kebabs or something.

Students have lots of money when their student loans arrive wink

As a current student, anywhere you can grab something vaguely interesting to eat for less than the price of a McDonald's would be a solid business plan, pic a niche (noodles, wraps, sandwiches etc etc) and shift it for as cheap as possible. Something vaguely healthy is a plus.

Setting up an awning and some seating outside the van during lunchtime would also be a plus.

Sounds about as far away from a solid business plan as it's possible to be. McDonalds is cheap.

It's possible though, there's a couple of places in the middle of Glasgow within walking distance of a couple of the unis, one does £4-5 sandwiches/paninis and is really popular, another that does Burritos for £6ish. Make it anymore expensive and you won't get any business from students smile

In my experience, students won't pay £5 for a panino. By the time they've paid for accompaniments they're looking at the thick end of a tenner, A big Mac meal including fries and drink is £4.49.

That wouldn't work, if it was themed on Jeremy Corbyn he would need to give all his products away for free to the "poor" students then go back to his mansion.

Are there lots of foreign students at the uni.?
Storage idea might work better for them.
All night munchies delivery service
Find out the popular nights out for students and have a takeaway van outside and outside the student union

Rather than trying to find an appropriate business, why don't you advertise the use of a van and storage space? ie, let people book the van and storage and let them try to run businesses - have a website with FB/uni exposure, a calendar/booking and payment system and just step back and see what comes in for a few months.

(What could possibly go wrong?!)

Take on Shiply/Anyvan+storage?

Just sell a range of Corbyn branded clothing and goods. And anti-May ones. The students will happily spend the money mummy and daddy gave them on supporting their hero and anti-christ.
