Mrs BrownTrout has been running her own beauty salon in a smallish town for five years employing five staff. Most of the income comes from doing acrylic nails. The shop is still reasonably busy, but trade dropped off when a new salon opened nearby which is run by illegal immigrants from Vietnam. I've informed the border agency but nothing has happened. Most major towns have nail salons which are run by illegal immigrants from Vietnam, the border agency know this but the salons continue operating.

Yesterday she discovered another one is opening opposite her, again by illegal immigrants from Vietnam. They don't pay any income tax, NI, etc. and are usually a front for money laundering. Any ideas how to get them closed down?

I initially gave them the benefit of the doubt and wanted to believe it's a level playing field.

How do I know they're illegal immigrants from Vietnam?
Mrs BrownTrout is Vietnamese and phoned them asking for a job telling them she didn't have a visa it’s not a problem they don’t have one either.

There are thousand of illegal Vietnamese here. The two main trades are growing weed and running nail salons, even the person who is at the top is often illegal they just pay some who is legal to sign the lease (Mrs has been asked to do it in the past). The majority of the females who are here legally, are on the fiddle, single parents, free house, free money from the government and £500+ cash in hand doing nails.

If it was a legit business competing it's not a problem.

Back on track any ideas how to get them closed down.

Is this really your first post on a car forum or is it an alter ego?
You may be correct or you may be a racist bigot, either way you have to follow the appropriate due process, jumping through hoops in the correct order and being persistent until you achieve your goal.

There should be a law against illegal immigrants running money-laundering fronts! It's dis-GUST-ing...

How much worse is 'racist bigot' than 'racist'?

This is generally my understanding on the whole situation, I would not call you racist.

Unfortunately seems like your going to be the one jumping through hoops legally to get anywhere with this....

Money laundering usually involves paying some income tax / NI on illegal income by pushing it through a legitimate business . For example

Jimmy the drug dealer earns £10k a week from selling drugs. That's dirty money. To clean this money Jimmy pretends he has a luxury car hire business. he has several Ferraris /Lambos /Avensi and he "rents these out for £10k per week" After depreciation his profits are £1k per week on which he pays £400 tax. the money is now clean.

ETA if the salons are fronts for money laundering they would have to show the illegal immigrants as employees which seems risky tbh

If what you say really is true, HMRC will be far more interested than Border Control (I suspect).

However, it's the price you pay for competing on price. They'll always be someone who will do it cheaper than you. Compete on service instead. Raise your prices but offer a much better experience.

The nail salon in the town 11 miles from us caught fire one night and was completely destroyed. It was quite spectacular, lots of flammable materials. The banks next door and the business the other side were also badly damaged.

The bank has since been restored to it's former glory but the nail bar is just a gap between two buildings.

Not sure if they ever established the cause but it seems a little bit iffy if you ask me.

Your wife needs to provide a service that makes her customers not want to go anywhere else. If her trade is dropping she clearly isn't doing that at the moment.

Treating the subject seriously for a moment- it's likely that the issue from the customers' point of view is one of cost. If the result is pretty much the same for each establishment (and it's difficult to envisage how one nail bar is going to get a better result than another) then the customers are going to choose on the basis of cost.
