Best High End / Fine Dining Indian Restaurant - London

Hi,
So me and my partner are both Indian and naturally we've tended to sway away going to many Indian restaurants, especially with the vast array of different cuisines on offer and well, we get great Indian food at home.
However it's long intrigued us as to just what high end Indian restaurants do to the what are classic dishes which makes 'Michellin Star' status. As just from brief scoping of the menus there doesn't appear to be much in it. So we want to give one a try.
So, please recommend the best high end Indian restaurant, ideally in Central London but really anywhere up to Zone 3 would be fine.

Don't get to London very often so haven't been to any of the main suspects but about 4 years ago my wife and I went to La Porte des Indes in Bryanston Street and we were very impressed. A lovely setting in an old ballroom and the French/Indian food was amazing, we didn't have a clue as to what to choose so they did a sort of tasting menu for us and everything was delicious, would definitely recommend it.

+1 lovely atmosphere and great food. We did a ridiculously good value cooking demonstration with food and wine tasting/pairing, tour of the kitchens and 3 course lunch including signed cookbook and pouch of spices for about £35 a head

I forgot about that one. It's a lovely and unusual place, although I am not sure if the food is the best Indian in London. I went with an Indian client, who kept pointing out how it was not genuine food like 'back home'. I imagine we would all do that - if I went to an English restaurant in Delhi, I'd notice that traditional English dishes like pork pie, fish and chips or tikka masala were not quite right.wsurfa said:

This is on the 'to visit' list after I saw photos of the dishes from a friend who went. However the dishes seem very much quirky and unusual e.g WATERMELON GINGER SHARBAT MAKHNI MACARON 
I'm more so after somewhere offering more traditional/recognisable dishes but with the fine dining / high end element/twist added to it.
Waiting for suitable occasion to visit Vineet, think it'd be a nicer affair if a group of us went than just us two.

king far from fine dining it's like eating in a nightclub.Just to add to the real high end ones listed above I would put Star of Jndia on the old Brompton Road into the mix. Owned by Resa Mohamed and opposite HR Owen Ferrari for some car porn
