They have the evidence, photos of me and my bike...... but how do they know my reg number if the only pics they have are the front of the bike?

Does someone jump out of their speed van and have a look as I ride by?

First offence since I passed my test in 1977.

Any chance I could demand photographic evidence it was actually my bike?

The vans normally have the camera that gets you on a tripod just to the front of the van by the bumper

This van was facing backwards to me, sort of hidden in some bushes at the side of the road, from what I remember. Not sure if they had any external cameras that I could see.

Shouldn't a photo of my number plate be part of the evid nice too?

I'm guilty, I made a mistake, wasn't sure if I was in a 30 or 40, so assumed it was a 40.

Plus, there was a 40 sign a few yards past the van, so I never even hit the brakes when I saw the van. They bagged me for 37 in a 30.

They don't need a photo of the plate (even if they have one), a statement from a witness as to the VRM is enough.

Oddly enough, I was caught doing 38 in a 30 and had gone through the speed camera at the correct speed, so I wasn't sure how they did it either (always thought it had to be an approaching speed) but I knew it was me as the time and location were correct so just coughed it and took the course.

Yes, I have filled in the form and sent it off already.

I hope they will let me do the course. Clean license since I was 17, so hoping to keep it that way.

The ironic thing is the day the letter arrived I'd just passed another speed camera van in our town, and I'm pretty sure I was on the edge of 30 in a 30, but it is a bit tricky to maintain speed on a 1200 Bandit when idling along at what feels like walking speed. So easy to drift up 10mph without even noticing.

Fingers crossed..... twice in a week would break my heart, and confidence in my riding. I hardly ever exceed legal speed in built up areas.

They will have a picture of you for sure but it doesnt mean your number plate has to be in it,
the operator can simply write it down and thats good enough.

Some areas have vans with cameras to the sides of them as well....I know Leics police have these types of vans as well.

£28,000 to upgrade a standard speed camera van to that version. They will have to catch a whole load of people to cover that before they are into the profit zone.

Despite having just been busted, I have no moral objection to speed cameras and vans, as long as they are in sensible places, accident hot spots etc.

However, with all the ANPR systems in place, why can't they go out and catch some of the 30% of drivers who apparently don't have insurance?? It is all on line now, so a simple program could operate the same way the cameras do, and have a summons plop onto the doormat of non insured, or non MOT or taxed drivers.

Ring along in first gear, you notice it when you pick speed up a lot more. There are a couple of average camera zones in 30 limits near me. First gear is the way forward. (If anything a Bandit 12 is geared lower than my bike, so you might be able to get away with second).

It is geared ridiculously low, could probably pull a couple of extra teeth on the front sprocket easily.

The motor is so flexible it would make a far better touring bike than my BM r1100r, the one I got busted on.

The Bandit has an aftermarket can on and it does tend to surge and hunt a little at low rpm, so I might try holding it in first gear and see how it goes.

Shouldn't take too long. But anything that can catch a speeding motorist will be bought, regardless of cost or value for money, go to get yer crime fighting priorities right...

About 280 people - probably a day's work!

Indeed. The viral wave of speeding motorists plaguing this country is what is bringing the empire to its knees.

Where do you get 30% of drivers being uninsured from? That nearly 1 in 3 vehicles on the road. No way can that be realistic.

Something I saw on TV a couple of years ago, but the quantity is irrelevant, the message is still the same, why can't they summons everybody who is not legal, once they identify their car has been seen on the road. It would not be hard to program some system to do it, correlate all the information they already have, plus the ANPR, and job done.

Probably around 5% I would have thought.

Still even if only 1% far too many.

For many young 'uns the risk of getting caught is less of a hassle than finding £1500++ for insurance, so they don't bother. That was on the news too a while back. Plus I have a couple of nephews of that age who say the same thing.

ANPR interphase could have them all off the road in a few months. No reason they don't all have a summons in the post within weeks of driving.

I'd be asking for a photo tbh for my £100. Not sure if you ask you don't get the speed course but up here its 3 points sir, £100 sir, wtf is a course.

As a matter of principle if I'm done again, I'll be getting a photo, like the log flume ride at blackpool.

I phoned up and they emailed me two photos. Pretty obvious it is me, though there is a blue van that looks about three feet from my tail end.

When I first saw the speed camera I glanced in my mirror, as I knew there was a car behind me, and it had dropped back a long way, so I had already been clocked/filmed long before I actually saw the camera.
