I am approaching the end of my Vodaphone mobile contract, and I need to give 30 days notice to ensure I cancel on time.

As I am on holiday on my 30th day away from said contract ending, i figured I'd ring them early, and just say ''this is my 35 day notice'' or at least ask them to put a note on the system to ensure my contract ends on time.

Despite two attempts to get through to their cancellation team over the weekend, (each time ending up being diverted through to their customer service team due to 'busy') Vodaphone were unable to accept my ''30 day notice''.

All their customer service team could advise was to keep trying to contact them (''they are only a small team, and are very busy'') and just accept that if I am ''late'' with my 30 day period, I would just have to pay the pro-rata rate for the extra 1,2,3,4 etc days I end up in the 'next' billing cycle.

What irked me is having wasted 25mins on the phone to Vodaphone, with Vodaphone Customer Service unable to accept the 30 days notice Vodaphone demand. Vodaphone can only advise I keep trying to call Vodaphone back, until the right Vodaphone team aren't busy and I can finally give Vodaphone my 30 days notice.

Fair enough I am sure I could send them a letter, but I am not 100% I want to leave them until I discuss my options with the one team able to handle all of this.

Surely ''Give Vodaphone 30 days notice'' means anyone from Vodaphone (acting on behalf of said company) should legally accept it? No where does it say in my T&Cs that I must speak to a specific company.

When we have both cancelled with Vodafone it wasn't much of an issue once we got through.

30 days notice and a request for the PAC code was easy.

Requesting a potential 35 day cancellation and the possibility of different options is just complicating it.

Why not phone the upgrades number and see what your options are before giving them the required notice?

This was the department I was ringing (cancellations/upgrades), after several rings it just dumps me into their generic Customer Service team. They then forwarded me back to said team, but each time they just came back to me and said 'they are busy, call another time''

As for the 35 days, I don't see what is so complicated? I ring up, say I am a few days early due to holiday next week....don't renew my contract, or continue it next month. It ends on the 26th, so end it on the 26th. I will ring you guys up when I am back from hols to negotiate/get PAC code etc etc, and if a deal is sorted, ill do it then. If a deal isn't sorted, I don't want to continue this contract longer then I need to (because; Vodaphone).


Fair shout on the chat, I will try them via that and see if I have more luck!!

You do realise that giving them the 30 day notice is telling them you definitely do not wish to continue? If you are not sure, look through your options then decide whether or not to give notice.

If you're moving elsewhere, AFAIK your PAC number can be requested, and then used as close to "day 30" as you choose, so that you don't go over your original contract date smile

No it isn't biggrin

That's the point they transfer you to Retentions, who have the good deals. If you actually want to leave, ask for the transfer code thingy

Im with Vodafone and find the live chat excellent, i had a moan a few weeks ago about losing my 4gb of Europe data allowance as all your UK data now applies abroad. I was even willing to buy myself out of my contract, After a chat with the operators manager I ended up paying £40 for 61gb and the usual unlimited calls and text. This was supposed to be till the end of my contract,I've had a letter confirming this deal is till September 2019. Op have you tried going g to a Vodafone shop and chatting to a manager, they might have different numbers to ring.

As I can see you're in quite the quandary there, let me make the decision for you from someone with Vodafone experience : you really DO 100% want to leave them. Just trust me on this. They are the worst mobile comms "provider" (and I use that word extremely lightly) by far and that's saying something given recent experiences with both O2 and EE but Vodafone are on a whole different level of abysmal.

In any case, the fact that you cannot complete the extremely simple task of given them a 30 day cancellation notice period should answer the question for you on whether to stay with them.

Had an appalling experience recently with O2. My wife bought one of those WiFi hotspot thingies. Bought and paid for in full, no rental or anything. Asked for an unlock code to use it abroad with a local sim and they told her they won't unlock it for 12 months. Bunch of crooks the whole lot of them.

That will probably be because O2 subsidises the cost of the device, in return for a the lock in.
You may be able to unlock it unofficially, depending on the model, via an ebay code or indy mobile seller etc smile
