Avios , BA or their own site? And BA Amex?

Not sure where this should be, I hope there are some Avios users on here. I have both a BA Executive and a direct Avios account, I'm thinking of having all the points under the BA site, is this the best option?

Am also thinking of getting a BA Amex card for all my work expenses, just the base card, I'm getting nothing from my current card and spend an average of £1500/m which will turn into points. Any other 'rewards' credit cards to consider?

If you are spending 1500/month you perhaps won't hit the voucher threshold (£20,000) on the basic card. The voucher threshold is £10,000 on the higher card, plus the earning rate is higher and insurance benefits better, although obviously you pay the fee for this card.

You can transfer between BA, avios, Iberia etc, so for the most part doesn't matter where they credit.

The other option would be to get a regular amex card which accumulates membership rewards, then you have more transfer partners besides BA, and other arbitrage opportunities to consider

You can switch the points from BA to AVIOS and vice-versa on line dead easily. I tend to leave mine in the one they've accumulated in and then if booking something from AVIOS transfer the BA points to it or vice-versa if booking something on BA.

I never get near the point where I can get a free companion flight, but just by accumulating points over time from normal everyday spending and seeing a BA half price AVIOS sale on flights from Birmingham, me, the other half and our daughter are off to Florence for a week at October half term and it cost me just 22,000 AVIOS and £75 in taxes. That was a holiday we wouldn't have been doing if it wasn't for the AVIOS points and the only thing we've done is put our everyday spending on the AMEX card (plus converting Clubcard points to AVIOS too).
