Apparently this policy is coming into force early 2018...

What are they thinking?

We HAVE to watermark images to stop all the Chinese and bedroom sellers stealing our photo's and passing them off as their own...

I give up with ebay now...

Too many people putting contact details in pictures. They've got to keep you trapped into the ecosystem.

The only difference between ebay and the titanic is the titanic had a band.

Hah, yea seems that way.

They already have a policy on board to try and prevent text in images but they still encouraged active watermarks to protect user owned images, it now seems they have gone back on this are now requesting no watermarks, no matter how subtle, will be allowed at all.

Further investigation and comments from other members suggest they are selling it as an Amazon style 'catalogue' system with details and images to make it "easier" for customers to sell a product, however I honestly think they will eventually want to go one step further and start cutting out the ebay sellers and buy/sell direct much like Amazon do...

Considering the amount of foreign sellers using UK fulfilment sellers I would be extremely worried moving forward if your a seller simply buying and selling generic products from overseas, it's just a matter of time before this business model is not workable if your registered/based in the UK.

I spent 3 days last week removing all personal data, phone number / facebook links, from all my listings, nearly 900 items. Now this. Brilliant. Not entirely sure what a watermark is ? all my pictures are taken on a background with my ebay shop name on it. Cant wait to re photograph everything. What a ballache.

In this case it means visible text, eg a URL across the photo to stop other sellers using it, or at the bottom so people can attribute it. (The latter can of course be easily cropped or cloned out)

Watermark is a translucent mark across the photo, difficult to remove. Stuff written on the background, comparatively easy to get rid of.

Can you keep your logo on the image, or must all logos be removed?

eBay lost their direction around 5 years ago. They’ve spent the last five years becoming more Amazon like without the clear structure.

eBay keep sellers busy by introducing rules like these every six months or so. Enjoy
