Are these two pretty much the same thing? Do they work anywhere that accepts contactless payments? Just got a samsung phone so have the option of either, not intending on using often, just as an emergency back up.

As far as I am aware they are the same thing, however Samsung pay hasn't got all the UK banks on board yet, I am on my second Samsung phone now (S9+) and Natwest still aren't on the list, I want to look a right tosser when in Aldi and pay by my watch (Gear S3), however I can't yet so it is Android pay and with the phone.

They are much of a muchness. I do quite like using the phone and fingerprint.

As I remember Samsung Pay had particularly egregious permissions demands. It might be worth comparing the two.

Samsung Pay was meant to have a feature where it could be used on even non-contactless enabled terminals. Not sure if this ever happened.

It's 0 for 3 in my tests.

I use Google Pay, not very often because my normal bank (Barclays) doesn't support it, I also have a Metro Bank card which do support it.

It has come in handy on them few days where I forgot my wallet when going to work.

Even if I had a Samsung phone, think I would still use Google Pay over Samsung Pay.
