Has anyone else ordered one? I want to try and get away from being totally connected at the weekends so I've ordered one to see how it goes. The only thing missing for me really is WhatsApp but that is supposed to be coming soon.

I've ordered mine from carphone warehouse for £69.99 but I've got £10 from quidco so it's a pretty cheap experiment.

Was tempted when they launched, but T9 texting would drive me nuts. Also camera appears to be unsuitable for 'taking photos.' Cool pub phone though. Slide open to answer is a bonus.

Having freed self from the horrors of social media I picked up a BNIB Windows Phone (Lumia 735) from Ebay for £55. NFC, wireless charging, Carl Zeiss camera, Uber, Telegram, Maps and Outlook. Upgraded to Windows 10. User replaceable battery. No Google malarky.

It's the smart antidote to smart-phones. No-one will ever steal it.

I still have an old Nokia 6288 as a spare. Even better than the banana phone. Purely as a phone, it's brilliant. Slide to answer....slide to end call. T9 keypad but predictive text makes that easier. An actual button on the outside for instant camera (it's rubbish by modern standards of course) and you can even take selfies with the rear only camera as there's a tiny mirror next to the lens! Of course, excellent battery life compared to my smartphones.
I'd love an updated one of these!

There's a fresh review of the 8110 here:

https://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_8110_4g-review-1799...

and a warning of 'avoid fakes' here:

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/08/08/yes_we_ha...

I had one of the new Nokia 1 Android Oreos (£70) until last week when a family member who had sat on her Wileyfox stole it. It worked really well for a basic phone. Pants camera, though.

That review doesn't paint a pretty picture. Oh well I'll see how it goes.

They've rather messed up here, the nostalgia bait would have been the 7110.
They've reimagined the 8110 and tried to alter the looks to shoehorn in elements of the 7110 and in the end managed to come up with something that resembles neither very well.

And to omit the 7110 party piece of a spring loaded slider is shocking.
That alone would have increased sales three fold!

I'm now off to eBay to see if I can find an actual original 7110..

I bought the 3210 re-release that came out last year, when I was in Turkey I put my UK sim in it and put a Turkish sim card in my Pixel XL 2. it was good to text/call of but that's about it, because it only had 3G it was useless for browsing on etc.

If the 8110 can get whatsapp etc it could become quite useful.

It arrived today. Feels quite nice in hand, it has useable google maps and browser for when required. The best thing was it connected to my contacts through gmail so I didn't have to type them in like I did in the 90's.

It'll be a lot better once the whatsapp app is launched but I'll be switching my sim over to it for the weekend, I'm expecting to get well over a full weekends use out of the battery.

mine arrived - and died the same day frown it turned off whilst charging and wouldnt come back again and got very very hot. Sent it back and now they say another 4 - 5 weeks so gave up for now.

reflections on whilst it worked - felt decent but not as solid as the old school nokias felt. The screen attracted so many finger prints somehow. GoogleMaps seemed good by mine wouldnt find itself despite having location turned on (maybeit was faulty as I seemed to have a bad one).

I didnt have enough time to explore it properly before it died but I couldnt find the T9 predictive text which is a shame.

Thats a wounder, are you going to get another one when they are available?

Google maps can find it's location so it must have been an issue with yours. Predictive text is in Settings - personalisation - input method.

My sim is now loaded into mine and my S9+ will be left on the side all weekend. I'll report back how I get on.

Almost 48 hours later and it's been a good weekend. Texting on the keyboard is a bit awkward but it just makes me want to do it less. It's easier just to call someone. Call clarity is spot on.

I played about an hour or so of snake and 2048, took a few photos which aren't actually that bad, it's also been paired with my car for calls on the move.

It was 100% battery power when I put my sim in and it's still on 31%. It has a power saving mode which could extend it further.

I needed to go somewhere earlier which I used google maps to show me the location, I then had to remember where to go rather than using it as a sat nav as it won't do that.

I could really do with whatsapp so that I can keep up with group chats, other than that there have been no drawbacks of using it.

I'm away next weekend so I'll need my S9 for satnav duty but the weekend after the 8110 will be pressed into service again. It was quite nice to have a bit of a digital detox.

Thanks for review. The carriers are doing these at silly prices with PAYG sims.

Discovered creaking old BlackBerry in Dead Kit Box and revived that. Everything no longer works, except calls, emails and texts. BlueTooth still functioning so works in car.

Great antidote to lugging a smart-brick around. :-)

Just to rebump this after posting in the 3310 thread.

Currently using a 8110 4G for my work sim card, they sent me a £20 Alcatel phone to use, started using the 3310 but decided to upgrade to the 8110 4G in yellow. Quite enjoying slide down to answer, slide up to end.

Got Whatsapp working as well on it! Only thing I cant get working is data.. wifi works, data APN is set up but data doesn't work, disconnect wifi but data doesn't start up.

Now running an O2 signal booster in the house as well so its not signal issue.
