Please!

I would like to build my own using one of the myriad of self build platforms.
I need to have approx. 200 items on it in different sections each with multiple photos (as many as 12 ) and text.
No need at the moment to be able to take payments from it, although that may change.
Ability to add items at any time whilst others may be removed.
User friendly from both ends!

I am not very tech savvy although I am always willing to learn and I have the time to do so.
I'm sure I've forgotten plenty of other important stuff!

Thanks very much.

Shopify is excellent and you could be up and running within half an hour. It's very easy to use and has a lot of add ons (apps) that could be installed if you ever need additional functionality.

If I were loading 200 items I would want an open platform such as Wordpress so if I migrated at a later date I could export the database etc

Don't get locked in with WIX for example at £10 a month, when you go to move later down the line, you'll have to repeat the loading of the 200 products again!

Thanks.
I have just been talking to someone re wordpress and it sounds as though it will probably be the best for my requirements.
The wix etc sites scare me!

It's probably worth mentioning that word press isn't maintenance free, I would recommend reading a few word press for dummies guides before diving in

IMO you can't imagine how hard this will be to do. You may get it up and running but it is a big learning curve. There are loads of companies that can do this for you without big costs, leaving you to do other things you are suited to.

Wordpress is used for more website builds than any other globally but that still doesn't mean its quick to knock up a decent website.

I've been meaning to ask a similar question.

Much simpler requirements for my business:

Home page with a quick precis of the services I offer

Detailed list of services with some prices

Some pics of previous work

Contact page

Just a basic advert really. No need to take payments, no products to sell, no need to update regularly.
All I've done so far is registered a domain with GoDaddy.

There are people on people per hour doing this for a few hundred, some are “ok” - don’t waste your time learning a new skill to use once.

In (very recent) hindsight I think you’re right. I have spoken to a small local company who specialise in Wordpress - the owner gives talks about it - and I am going to be able to get something up and running for c.£5/600. Will include post setup advice as well.
I do like to keep business local where possible.

As an aside, what do you reckon for Saturday? Coys!!!

4-4 draw knowing how we go to sleep in the second half and you take ages to get going.

For basic websites and small on-line shops wix.com is the easiest platform to use.

Once you have 500+ items then I'd use EKM.com. It's a proper ecommerce shop not a website as such.

Xara is an inexpensive WYSIWYG web designer and very easy to use
