Guys I remember my brother used to give his clients Harrods hampers at Xmas and I’m looking into if this would be a nice thing to do for Velstar.
I’m keen to avoid the alcohol / religion issue so just food hampers I think.
Also I want it to be a real hamper not a box.
Any recommendations please.

Don't forget the gammon, pork sausages, pigs in blankets, and various other meat-based products that come in hampers wink

In all honesty I wouldn't worry about the religious side of things too much - it's the thought that counts (and which will be appreciated). Whenever we've received hampers at work we give out the alcohol to those who "drink" and the others get to choose something else. Everyone's a winner smile

Selfridges do a good range

And I thought my industry was staid! Goodness!

As above - it gets divided around the office anyway.

I usually get a Fortnums hamper with many bottles of wine etc in it but no food. I also get half a smoked salmon (properly smoked, not dyed). I like both but love the salmon! If I didn't have it sent as a gift I would definitely order it (I used to use Uig salmon suppliers and they were excellent - other suppliers are available, obv!).

Farmed salmon. Sickening. hurl

Not just using farmed salmon, but hypocritical with it too:

IS YOUR FISH FRAMED OR WILD?

Uig Lodge is committed to the sustainability of wild salmon and sea trout stocks and we strongly believe the practice of netting wild salmon and sea trout should be left in the past. Scotland’s wild salmon and sea trout stocks face many challenges and it is therefore our priority to help maintain and enhance stocks within Scotland. We can only achieve this by smoking farmed fish and encouraging conservation measures such as ‘catch and release’ on our own river, which leaves the river many hundreds of thousands of eggs better off at the end of each season.

Do people still do this? I thought it was almost impossible to give / receive gifts these days, unless of a nominal value.

Dunno will find out if they come back I guess. None of our clients are big corps so maybe ok.

Yeah I bought some Christmas gifts for clients last year, but they came back on my tax return as disallowed expenses for being over £50 or something.

We still do it, albeit the other way around than some others. As well as giving nice hampers to all of our staff, we also give hampers to people at key suppliers who have helped us achieve our goals across the year. Whilst you never know for sure, it seems to be appreciated, and it gives us an opportunity to thank them for their efforts.

Haven't you ever tried framed fish? Give it a crack. It's lovely!

Very common indeed (public sector notwithstanding, obviously).

Nothing wrong with giving gifts (or, what is more common, taking people out for corporate jollies). They just need to be declared in the relevant “Gifts & Hospitality Register”. Although there are ways around that as well.... you just dress them up as conferences/seminars/briefingssmile

Coop asks us not to now. We have been signatories to its Bribery Policy for years. Anything above £35 needs to be declared.

There is a guy 2 miles from you on the North Cheshire Trading Estate who will make decent bespoke hampers for you. I just bought 270 from him for customers (excluding Coop obviously). He used to own Alouette Wines. You may know him. I use him every year and buy imported wines from him.
