Looking for something different but with better weather protection and not a daily driver to run alongside the 7 (1.6K supersport)
Two seats fine, better with four, not an Elise. Suggestions please, doesn't have to be modern, must be interesting though.
Budget up to £30k

Suggestions please.

Depends what the budget is?

Some suggestions:

Mazda RX8
Honda S2000
Lotus Evora
BMW 840i/classic 635csi (different proposition granted)
Megane RS

I have the new Megane RS as my daily.

Works great for me. It really depends if you want your daily to be more of a comfy cruiser or something with a bit more edge (I prefer the latter).

A TVR Cerbera, huge boot, huge fun to drive on lanes or touring, rear seats for small children.
I may be a little biased :-))

Have you thought about a Golf R with a sunroof? It is totally practical and does it all and are now down to around £20k.

I would suggest a Land Rover Defender but you said with better weather protection

A Classic? I have an Alfa Giulia GT Junior with a transplanted 2 litre Alfa engine, which now looks a bit like an Alfaholics GTA-R. Good sunday car to complement my SLR (which doesn't get much use these days - other than as a shelf)

Don't buy a TVR.
I did in 2001, it effectively retired the Caterham which I sold shortly after.
Oh, hang on, I bought it back a few years ago.....now have both again. But the Caterham is now little used (again).

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the idea of an Alfa and Alfaholics have something for sale but think that might be over budget. Found a Chimera to look at and rather than the 205 Diesel I got when I commuted 60miles a day for my first job going to look at a 205 GTI, the car I wanted to buy.
I've never had a proper mini so added that to the list

I’ve pondered this sort of question for a while. I run a Caterham alongside a new style Fiat 500 (auto, ideal for city and also fine for a long run)

I’ve whittled it down to some sort of grand tourer, really as mileage would be low so fuel costs don’t worry me too much. It had to be interesting but comfortable and stylish.

I’m looking at Jaguar XJs or Xk8, or Alfa Gtvs in coupe or convertible form.

The advantage of running a Caterham is that almost any other car, Ariel Atom excepted, looks sensible and practical!

I ran a few cars over the years that sort of eclipsed each other. My solution was to have two entirely different cars - and that has worked well for me. A Range Rover for a daily drive and a Morgan for sunny days.

If I had a 7, I would be looking at a large estate or 4x4.

That's my take on it too.

Elise Sport 160 and 300CE24v was my combo.

Ive had a caterham alongside a 968 CS, made the 968 seem quite boring.

Problem you will have is that most "driver's cars" will be dull alongside a Seven.

I went Elise S1 Sport 160 with loads of upgrades. And only now does it offer a thrill equivalent to my Caterham.

Practical car is a BMW E36 which also has too many mods. Bit at least it is now a fun machine smile

A classic is the only way to go to be honest. Restored 2002 or something similar?

I run a Caterham and 1970 Lotus Elan. Works well for me.
