Corona - Annual leave - Spain & Others
Discussion
Not another corona thread...
With a lot of the COVID travel restrictions having been relaxed recently, some of the public have clearly decided to start going abroad.
I’m sure the people who booked Spanish holidays are now pretty pissed with the 2wk quarantine ruling - not to mention their employers who now have to lose their staff for further time after an already tough year.
You could view the quarantine in Spain as a sign of things to come, with other popular holiday destinations likely to follow at some point?
With this in mind would you fellow employers consider enforcing a mandatory week of quarantine on any trip outside the UK - with a view of being ahead of the curve to protect your business and its other staff.
We employ a range of staff from 20 somethings who fail to recognise COVID even exists and are probably already in Spain (who would kick off), through to the older ones who are terrified for the lives of their elderly parents (who will now be even more terrified).
Interested to see the various views. Please consider that in my business not everybody can WFH - thus if somebody in the premises gets it the whole place has to shut and everybody loses out.
Cheers.

I think anybody that books a holiday abroad for the forseeable future needs to do so on the basis that they should plan on a quarantine on return. The situation anywhere can change within a week. It's very clear that we are not in a stable or predictable situation. If your employees go overseas it needs to be on the understanding the risk when they return is all theirs. IE: if the rules change & you need to qurantine...... they take it as leave or unpaid. With a lot of the COVID travel restrictions having been relaxed recently, some of the public have clearly decided to start going abroad.

As an employer no I would not enforce a weeks quarantine for anybody travelling from abroad. Many countries remain a lower risk than the UK, so it would be unreasonable & disproportianate.

If I were an employer I would actually consider paying employees for their remaining holidays in lieu of not taking them.
I know it's needs must, but that's not exactly legal. (Unless of course you have a really generous holiday policy). But, sometimes you just need to do what you need to do & deal with the fall out.
(that was always my style )

No, you still accrue holiday pay while on furlough.
