Jeep Renegade PHEV...bought
Discussion
Picked up yesterday...so far I'm impressed...
For Context:
- had a Renault Zoe for a year
- had a Tesla MS for a couple of months
- live in the country literally no neighbors, closest village is 2 miles away...lots of narrow muddy lanes
- its mostly a car for the missus
- driving requirements are 95% driving the kids to and from school which is 10 miles in each direction
I was looking at all the mid-sized/small BEV SUVs, bur we decided we need 4x4, and there are no BEVs which are 4x4....and she hates big cars.....
Going to test today whether scool and back can be done on pure electric......it will need plugging in on the drive every night
Will post more after a few more days experience. Only last point, its on a Personal Lease, mostly because I think technology is evolving so fast, there will be a much better fit for our requirements in a few years, and I want to swap it when that happens.

Aren't all the Teslas (with the dual motor option) 4x4? Or is the Model X too much of a "soft-roader" for actual muddy lane use? (I'm interested as a move to somewhere a bit further into the countryside is on the cards in the next few years and good to hear from someone with experience of it).

EQC, ETron, Model 3/S/Y, Polestar 2 all have AWD variants. Other than the Tesla S/X they are all mid sized vehicles.
e-tron is 4m90 as well. And all of those are at least a segment larger than the Renegade. But yes, not really small 4x4 yet. The one that springs to mind is the Mazda MX-30, but FWD only and too small battery combined with pretty terrible charging speed...
How about "Skoda Enyaq IV"? I think that one will make a difference when it comes out, but from what I've seen the base ones will be 4x2. And again, a segment larger.
The small SUV is a big market but it's hard to fit in a decent EV at a competitive price at this point. I'd give it another 2-4 years for price parity.
Edit: Forgot about the XC40 Recharge! Fits the bill but is probably twice the price of the Jeep
Edit2: As per the poster above me

Thought Iwould give a quick update after a few months driving...
So obviously it has mostly sat on the drive unused as I am WFH and the kids were off school until March, that said:
THE GOOD
- inside is a lovely place to be - leather, driving position, LOADS of gadgets (more later), good visibility, outside looks good too - like a "proper offroader"
- stays plugged in alll night - always ready to go on a full charge.... although advertised as 27 miles on battery, display says 31 miles from full charge, seems accurate...I would estimate we are doing over 90% of driving on battery only (1000 miles on 2.5 tanks ahich cost about 35 squid to fillup)...no, I havent done the maths
- powerful and quiet. leave in "hybrid mode" most of the time, and although you can see (guages) and feel the two motors switching in an out, its not obtrusive
- gadgets are great, even better than the Model S (sat nav significantly so) - apple car play, climate controls, driver assist (interesting, unobtrusive but not (yet) significantly helpful)...has odd things like it turns the "corner" lights on at nght when you approach a sharp turn....warming up and de-misting the car is amazin on cold mornings...and the U-connect app is OK (climate, charging, tyre pressures, range etc to your phone)
THE BAD
- Snows Jeep in Southampton (dont get me started)
- i cannot get it to stay in electric mode - even pressing "electric" it will switch into petrol when not expected, although possible to keep this to a minimum by not pressing the loud pedal too hard
- U-connect needs some work (though its improvig)
- Bluetooth is ropey, switches in and out at random, doesnt give access to basic stuff like track lists, contacts etc
- Since Jeep got sold to Fiat, things need to improve on the customer services front
Thats about it reallly (in summary so far I love it) - wen lockdown eases, will be taking it on some longer joirneys, and doing some offroad work, more later, cheers

I have one too. Had it since Jan, but am yet to do 1000 due to lockdown. Had the 2.0 diesel version before that I loved.
Fantastic car, so comfy to drive and has just about everything you could want from a convenience perspective (Although I didn’t opt for the auto wipers and lights which is a pain as my other car has them so I sometimes forget to turn them on!). I’m still on the first tank of petrol that the dealer put in for me, I must pop to the garage to fill up soon, so almost all my journeys have been electric powered. I get the same 30ish miles to a charge. It will be interesting to see how it copes on longer motorway journeys.

HAHA - yes exactly the same for me on forgetting to switch on lights! Renaoult Zoe and Model S both took care of that.
Interestingly, seems if you leave the lights on, it switches them off when you stop/get out, but then doesnt switch them back on again.....hmmmm more investigation required...

It is an odd set-up, if you leave the lights on there is no audible warning like other cars it just turns them off. Thinking back to my previous Renegade, I do think they came back on when you restarted the car. I’ve not tried it on the new one yet though. We leased a standard renegade a couple of years ago, reassuring to see they seem to have improved a bit.
I think ours was a Friday car. By comparison I now have a ten year old Freelander 2 that is silent in comparison to the rattles and clunks in that new renegade. Build quality was truly awful and had I owned and not leased it I think I'd probably have rejected the thing, none of this was really helped with a dealer about to go under who couldn't have cared less.
That said, I still like the look of them and whilst we had ours for all it's niggles it ran ok. Sat Nav was, from memory, absolutely awful as well.

It sounds similar to what Fiats and Alfas do, the lights turn off when you turn the car off and back on when you turn it on, there is a separate setting for parking lights, I like it and it makes sense in Italy where you are supposed to drive with your lights on all the time.Interestingly, seems if you leave the lights on, it switches them off when you stop/get out, but then doesnt switch them back on again.....hmmmm more investigation required...
Nice review thanks for posting, few points
1. Quite a bit more boot space if you dont get the TRAILHAWK (cause others dont come with a spare wheel :-0 )
2. I doubt you can get the Trailhawk "between 30 and 40 K" - my Limited came in over 40K (although it seems to have all the same toys)

Filled up yesterday for the first time, I can’t believe how small the petrol tank is. The good news, I had used much less than I thought, but I can imagine plenty of stops on longer journeys. It cost me around £30 to fill from a quarter full so it must 30 litres or thereabouts. Tiny. But then I have done close to 1000 on £30 of petrol (and multiple electric charges). Averaging over 95 to the gallon according to the onboard computer, that will reduce when I get on the motorway and start commuting into London again.
