Jaguar MK2...HOW much?
Discussion
I just saw this Jaguar MK2 advertised for £275,000. I had to look twice. I'm no MK2 expert, but reading the blurb it seems this is a bit of a special MK2 with some provenance, but is it worth THAT much more than a 'regular' show condition example?
A look through the photos reveals lots of patina kept on the car, some pitted chromework, torn leather gearstick gaiter. But surely for that price they'd stick on a set of NEW period type tyres. There's one photo of the front left tyre it looks to be riddled with cracks.

I’ve read that advert 3 times now and, unless I’ve missed something, all it really says is that it once did an auto test in a pub car park and some bloke in same pub car park said it had been “race-prepared by Jaguar”.
I doubt an actual “Works” car with significant comp history would be worth £275k...
Lovely thing but come on...

What a load of Waffle !!
Race prepared, really ??
And so what if it was supplied to GKN new, loads of these types of car were bought by large companies up and down the country.
It’s the pistons, not the cylinder head that give the CR ratio of an XK engine, 8.1 or 9.1
The Late / Great Dennis Jenkinson, specced his first E Type with 8.1 CR pistons, because in many parts of Europe, petrol quality was poor.

I remember reading an article in one of the rags about someone having a customised Mk2 built, I think by JDClassics and they'd spent about half a mil on it
things like carbon fibre umbrellas in the door, like on a modern Roller.
A fool and his money ...

It also comes with a copy of an old race programme. That's got to be worth a couple of hundred grand by itself.
How come people don't know this kind of thing?

So, presumably £5.50 for the work and the rest for the special JD bit on the top of the invoice then.cayman-black said:
I will come back to this thread in Ten years to see if they reduced it.
Sounds like a joke but this E Type was discussed in a similar thread 9 years ago. Still for sale with the same dealer at exactly the same price!http://www.peterjarvis.net/index.php?page=shop.pro...
It was probably really worth around £70k nine years ago. Ridden through the E Type boom and out the other side and still there!
