I lease a 0.8 acre secure (steel fence) compound as an operating base for a business. I have quite a bit of space spare and so have been wondering what other businesses I could rent the space to. At the moment I have a couple of truck owner drivers with their truck tractors based and outbased here, a handful of caravans and motorhomes stored and also used as overspill parking for a neighbouring vehicle body builder business at mates rates. Also have a static caravan in the corner which is basically lived in by one of the truck owners although it's only in use at weekends.

It's all open air, about half concrrete and half hardcore and while there is electric and water plumbed in on site, it's not currently wired up for "customer" use.

Would rather long term parking/storage type arrangements rather than regular comings and goings.

A mate of mine has said to advertise the caravan/camper storage as there's apparently a shortage of that countrywide, but my experiences with the owners so far haven't been great with them whinging about their vans getting mucky from the birds sitting in the trees around the perimeter and generally being more aggro than they're worth.

Anyone in a similiar position? smile

More of the same is what I say. Space for parking lorries, coaches, buses, motorhomes, caravans etc is limited these days as the sites usually get built on!

self storage- buy a load of new half size containers, bolt them to the ground, put up a secure fence around the containers, charger £80/week per container!

Is that the going rate for 20fters ? Interesting if so. Problem is that the price of them to buy has basically doubled over the past year.

Before you do anything check your lease in case there is a clause about subletting etc.
