One negative is that cash on pickup will no longer be an option on new "fee free" sale listings from 01-Oct-24.

How that going to work long term though? No revenue stream normally only ends one way.
I wouldn’t be shocked if for private sellers the bulk of revenue/income to eBay is via ancillary fees and supplementary items. E.g reserve fees, premium listings, postage / stickers, packaging etc. Some of these are considerably marked up for the convenience of using eBay to provide.

The free listings are to appeal to the occasional sellers that have migrated to Facebook or Vinted etc.

It will help having no fees, because it seems that the great unwashed have no money at all at the moment and cheap isn't cheap enough.

I had someone offer me 31p below the starting bid on a £5 item last week. When I offered it for £5 they didn't buy. It is as if people want a discount off any price, however small.

What is to stop a business selling on eBay in small quantities as a private seller? Asking for a friend…

Well I've just sold a couple of things that I am expecting now to be 0% commission. The postage portal has changed and is easier.

If this is what Ebay suggests it is going to be very successful.

Where is the revenue opportunity? Driving more business to the platform, making it a more attractive place for business sellers maybe?

Can't you still stipulate CoC in the listing?

I’ve not read the entire thread but strategy is to get more people buying from commercial sellers. They think you’ll sell your tat on eBay free of charge, leave the money in eBay and buy stuff with it like you all used to do with PayPal.

I suggest he doesn’t

It will more than likely end in tears

They will sell on Facebook / gumtree if you are in no rush
I've sold thousands of pounds worth of snap-on tools on eBay.

Haven't had a single problem

Admittedly I've been on eBay for 20 years and I get better service than new sellers

That's irritating, I sold something on there last week, for the first time in years, I got free listing but was a little surprised by the £8.60 in selling fees on a £50 item.

Obviously it'll all be listed somewhere and I've not bothered to read it but it seemed excessive so this move seems like a good one.

I just wish I'd known earlier so I could have waited biglaugh

Nothing except It's illegal but thousands do it

I have personal and business accounts on ebay

Annoyingly as a business you pay higher fees whereas most give volume customers a discount

My understanding that by 'motors' they just mean cars motorbikes and vehicle sales rather than parts

You have always had to list vehicles via the web page as the app can't cope with it for some reason

This is fantastic news.

I had pretty much stopped selling on eBay due to the fees and them parting company from PayPal. The fees often seemed a bit greedy but they weren't the biggest issue for me. The main problem was that I could no longer just save up all my sales income into a PayPal account and until I had enough to buy other crap hehe That was literally my favourite thing about selling on eBay.

The whole 'we have to put it in your bank account' thing was really, really annoying.

I do ok at selling on FB Marketplace, but there are often things I want to sell that which need the national buyer audience of eBay.

I shall list a few things today! Looks like their dastardly plan has worked!

The reason for the change given by eBay was because people who sell on eBay, buy a lot more on eBay

I suspect it is to knock their competitors out and once everyone is reliant on eBay, they'll reintroduce fees

However, gumtree is awful and marketplace has deliberately been designed not to work for some reason, so I don't use either already

The only other place I ever list things is on the Facebook groups I.E KTM Buy and Sell etc

Only a matter of time, they've already done it with clothes to compete with Vinted.
They need to make the listing process a simple as Vinted as well.

Its too late for Ebay. Vinted already has traction. Unless there is a buyout like Gumtree which I don't think will happen given the fact that borrowing money isn't cheap anymore.

Got the email yesterday, interesting and welcome decision but taken too long really, dread to think how much in fees I have paid over the years selling.

Does anyone know how the 3% for International sales works?

Most of my stuff is listed with the Global Shipping Program but tempted to remove this if it's going to lead to fee's

I used to think it was good value but it appears to cost people a fortune now (since Brexit I think) - someone recently paid £55 for a £30 item - a small parcel with postage included and it was only going to Ireland!
