Mine frequently marks it as delivered, when he hasn't quite got around to it, too

If it doesn't come tomorrow it's a Postman / Royal Mail cock up, rather than a conspiracy

Just spoken to Royal Mail and while they can’t tell me where it was delivered due to GDPR they have told me it wasn’t delivered to my address and that they have GPS to tell them where it was delivered. Can’t give me this in writing though.

EBay seem suspicious of this buyer as mentioned earlier so will wait and see and hopefully get a good outcome. My mate who had the smashed iPad returned to him instead of an iPhone has just had an empty box sent back for another iPhone, seems it is rife with new iPhones.

I just sold a versaclimber.

The guy sent a courier in a van to collect it. From Hungary…

Did not expect that.

Any update Tony?

If not, can you message me the tracking number - I'll try and get my 'contact' to look it up.

Case closed. Wow.

‘Thank you so much for contacting us at eBay Customer Service about the item iPhone 16 Pro Max Natural Titanium 256gb. I understand that you have not yet received the item back which shows delivered in tracking. Let me check and assist you.
I understand how frustrating it can be when you're left without the item you sold in good faith. For your order, the buyer provided tracking information that showed the item was delivered by the courier company to your address or very close to it. Because of this, we closed the case and issued a refund to the buyer.

I see from our records that the item was shipped and according to the tracking number OT822671645GB, it shows as delivered. We make our case decisions based on the information provided by the carrier and since tracking confirms delivery, we will be unable to take any further action.

If you were unable to find the parcel or believe it wasn't delivered, there’s still something you can do. If you haven't already, check any potential delivery areas around your address, including back doors, sheds, or other entrances. You can check with your neighbours to see if the item was misbelieved, or if a neighbour accepted the package on your behalf. If you're still unable to find your item, the best next step is to reach out to the carrier to report the issue.

I trust that we’ve sufficiently explained why we have taken this action based on the tracking showing delivery to your address. We appreciate the opportunity to resolve all of your concerns today. Thank you for contacting eBay Customer Service and being a part of eBay for 10.8 years. Wishing you a good and healthy day.’

Call them

If you can't see how, go to help, go to the chat bot and type in

"Get a human to call me"

You might have to do it a few times in a row but it always works for me

Called them and they said nothing we can do, raise a claim with ‘packlink’ lol. I asked to speak to a manager who said he will raise it with the security team to see if there is anything untoward with the buyers account, not holding out much hope as they had 100 feedback.

They said the gps from Royal Mail can’t be counted on as the driver may have updated the delivered status when they got back in the van etc.

Unbelievable really, this scam has been going on for years and years. Thought I would be ok due to the buyer having decent feedback but obviously they plan ahead.

I’m now trying to get in touch with Royal Mail to see if I can get anything in writing but what’s the point if manager says it can’t be relied on.

Edit: Royal Mail now told me GPS tracking shows other side of village on a footpath, not that this helps me.

Why did you accept returns? Surely one of the best things about being a Private Seller is that you don't have to accept returns (so long as you tick that in your listing). confused

Doesn’t matter if buyer says not as described

They have to prove it is not as described first.

I've been there and I won. eBay sided with me and closed the buyer's complaint. Item was as described and the buyer was not entitled to a return or a refund.

Mind you, the buyer did kind of shoot themselves in the foot by admitting that it worked when they got it, and they "just updated the BIOS" and bricked it, and had bought it to replace one that they had bricked. hehe

So, I mentioned earlier that Royal Mail gave me a rough location (street name and near a footpath). Just been down there with the intention to knock on doors. The second house from the footpath is number 46 (same house number as mine). Couldn’t believe it when I saw a parcel sat by the door, had my first name on it and their address. Empty box.

Despite finding it I still don’t think this helps me as they can just say I put it there. My only hope is that the barcode or QR code shows that it is my address - I haven’t seen the eBay returns label, which only gets sent to the buyer.

Adrenaline was going when I found the parcel lol but still think I’m going to get shafted by eBay.

FFS - this boils my p$ss...

So Royal Mail making it even more difficult but you can open a claim as the receiver for a lost item.

I'd maybe revert to the first option though, call eBay again and say it's now been delivered but empty - ask to be put straight through to their fraud department.

I'd maybe also involve the Police / Action Fraud.

Good luck!!

Bad isn’t it. I’ve already told them how i got the parcel back, manager is ringing me on Monday.

I downloaded a barcode scanner on my phone and while the QR code gives nothing, the barcode comes up with the tracking number. Unless I’m mistaken there is no way for a seller to see the eBay return label sent to the buyer? If so there is no way i could fake a barcode. You would hope this makes eBay see sense but somethings telling me they will screw me over on this, mainly the way they have acted up to now.

Just shows what a lottery it is

I recently had this problem, I sold my personal watch, that I wore everyday

I got positive feedback and the guy was happy, then he said it didn't work - I suspected he'd swapped the movement

I asked for proof, he couldn't provide it but they sided with him and I had to pay for return postage

When I got it back I took timestamped photos to prove it did work and raised a complaint

Ebay did nothing but as it was only £10 postage I couldn't be bothered to fight on, I sold it to the next guy who was happy

I'd accept the refund and get on with your life as the alternative is hassle and pain.
