Can the other party in 'messages' delete the conversation? I had dealings with a chap last year and I'm sure we sent messages to each other via 'messages' (both have iphones) and I'm looking for the convo now by searching for his name (I still have his contact details in my contacts) / a couple of key words but nothing is coming up? I wouldn't have deleted the messages so can he?
In message settings have you got message history set to "Keep forever"?Paddy_N_Murphy said:
MBA Touchpad woes....
I haven't used my MBA (11 inch, early 2015) for a few days, picked it up the other day and the trackpad was problematic. No longer 'clicked' when pressed.
Rebooted and press the four corners - and seemed better.
I took it on the rain yesterday to do some work and its annoying the hell out of me - the 'touch' always registers, in all locations. sometimes the 'click' does, sometimes doesn't.
The biggest bug is the 'drag and select' is totally hit and miss.
It makes editing things awful.
I have run diagnostics - see no issues.
I happened to upgrade to this new 'black' Mojave, and again still an issue.
It works with a mouse no probs.
So in summary - the touchpad sensing the finger tap.
Senses / will swipe left & right
Can't do much else with multi fingers.
Obviously out of AppleCare.....
Ideas / Checks ?
Not sure if it's the same on yours but on my 2012 MBP I had a similar problem, google suggested the battery was on its way out and was swelling and stopping the track pad form clicking. When I look it apart the batt was fine and it was a couple of screws loose on the bottom of the track pad, tightened them all, job done.I haven't used my MBA (11 inch, early 2015) for a few days, picked it up the other day and the trackpad was problematic. Maybe yours is similar?

I had the exact same issue on a 2010 MBP a few years ago. When the battery starts to die, it swells, and because it sat beneath the trackpad it prevented the trackpad from clicking. Maybe yours is similar?
Go to Apple Logo > About This Mac > System Report > Power
That will tell you some information about the battery, the number of cycles, the health of the battery and whether it requires changing. The first time it happened I was able to buy an OEM battery and swap it myself. The second time it happened with a business machine it was repaired by Apple under warranty. A sure sign it is on its way out is depleted battery performance when not plugged in, eventually it won't even support battery only and will require being plugged in.
If it's not the battery, it could be a ribbon cable that connects the keyboard and trackpad together. We've had this with 2 x 2012 MBPs at work, both fixed free of charge by Apple.

File question.
When I go to save a file, let's say I have made something in photoshop and want to save it in photos/edited/2019/jan.
When I go to save, the drop down box only gives me the main bfolders, so desktop, photos, documents etc. How can I go on through photos to get to jan?
It should be obvious. There is sometimes a downwards arrow that expands the save option dialogue. When I go to save a file, let's say I have made something in photoshop and want to save it in photos/edited/2019/jan.

A friend on the continent has sent me an Excel spreadsheet (xls file extension) containing letters with diacritics such as ö and ä. These letters display fine on various Excel versions on Windows and on my ipad's Excel viewer but in Excel on a Macbook the letters get converted to characters such as ^ and ¸. I could do a find and replace or even run a macro. But is there a better fix? I have found loads of info about issues importing a CSV file and the importance of selecting the right encoding but nothing helpful about problems within Excel. I have tried Excel 2011 and 2019 - same result. The Macbook runs the latest issue of OS Mojave.
Thanks guys for the help last time. I missed the obvious.
Now, I have a mac book pro and using HDMI, I have a second monitor. I use the MBP screen for email and the 23" for everything else. When I close the MBP, the second screen stays on. Indeed, if I turn it off and back on, it still shows my stuff. For security, when I close the MBP, I wish the second screen to go off too. Is this possible?

I'll guess that it's still plugged in to a power source when this happens? You need to adjust your power settings to put the MBP to sleep when you close the lid. Now, I have a mac book pro and using HDMI, I have a second monitor.
