Of course - obvious really. I mentioned the Apple TV as a means of connecting the Mac to the new screen - but as long as I can get a TB to HDMI it should be rosey.
Adding the AppleTV just seems to be an additional step you don't need.

Depending on the iMac/monitor, you may find the Mac's TB3/USB-C will work with a USB-C monitor too (although you'd need more than just the single input on the monitor to support the Windows PC).
It sort of twigged when I went out for some fresh air!

Three immediate choices:

https://www.currys.co.uk/products/samsung-lu28r550...

or

https://www.currys.co.uk/products/viewsonic-vx2776...

or

https://www.currys.co.uk/products/philips-278e1a-4...

The Philips model seems best mainly because I have my current windows monitors on a Vesa stand - but am I right in thinking all three would do the job?

They all have both DisplayPort and 2xHDMI, so as long as that matches up with your iMac and PC it will work.

Morning all,

MacOS Calendar query.

I have multiple different calendars in mine, two separate exchange accounts, a pair of gmail accounts, hotmail etc.

One of the Exchange accounts, my work one, I also have via my Outlook - and so annoyingly all reminders and Teams reminder for meetings are duplicated and often fight for attention.
I cannot find a way to remove the notifications for a specific account in Calendar, any ideas ?

Apologies for taking so long to close this one out - purchased a Samsung S34J550WQR - 34" extra wide job. Works well except switching between inputs is a bit of a pain and temperamental. HDMI 1 takes priority (the Mac) and if that is on, then when I try to switch to HDMI 2 (work Windows laptop) it scrolls past and defaults to HDMI 1. I need to lock the Mac, wait till the screen shuts down, then change.

New Apple Q.

I have Family set up - we share iCloud and Apple Music, but all payments are sent to my CC. Now the kids are grown up and have their own bank etc, can I set up Family so that all users pay for their own stuff directly with their own CC?

Oh, and another Q if I may, and this might be too obvious......

Quite interested in Apple One - if I subscribed to that (maybe even using one of the offers that is banded about) would it simply recognise my existing Music/iCloud accounts and upgrade them? I mean, I am guessing it would do - but I do worry about these things!!!

Apple One will use your existing Music and iCloud. We had two separate iCloud accounts under different Apple IDs and it linked them both into Apple One.

On the question about your grown up kids, you can only have two adults on Family and up to 3 children and it's a single payment.

Ta. I did wonder about the adult kids bit - nothing has changed on the account and the two eldest are well into their 20s.

Why don’t you just remove them from the family plan if they are adults?

Apple know their ages, if they really cared, they could remove them.

I don’t think the family plans are just for kids and adults are slowed allowed, albeit with a limit. I was just wondering why his adult kids are on his plan and if there are any benefits.

Because I am not convinced I actually need to, even though it is probably the right answer! The benefit (to them) is they are not paying for the music/iCloud stuff - but I would like them to not use my CC when they want payable apps/books etc.

Ah, yes I fully understand now! I forgot about the sharing of music, storage etc.

They must already have their own AppleIDs to be on Family so they can have their own payment methods on their IDs. If they add a CC though, it might trigger something in Family as they must be over 18 to have a CC.

ETA, you can also turn off Purchase Sharing under Family in Settings which I believe stops you seeing what they buy and them seeing what you buy and stops it all charging to you. They should still see Music/iCloud and so on

@MYOB, it's limited to 2 adults (including the organiser) and 3 kids but Apple don't appear to enforce it.

Are there any Mac friendly (USB-C) 4k monitors that are 16:10 or 3:2 proportion, other than the Huawei Mateview 28? Everything seems to be 16:9 or 21:9.

I'm looking for a new monitor to go with an M2 Mac Mini I don't own yet but I'll be getting one, and a work M2 MBP 13" when I'm working at home. My current screen is a Dell 2407, which is 24" and 1920x1200 resolution, a bit deeper than standard 1080p and I like the bit extra, this won't be for gaming. The Huawei is getting scarce, it's on clearance sale at Argos but the nearest click and collect one now is a drive away, it's not available for delivery.

I'd be ok going to 27 or 28", maybe 32 but looking at my desk now that may be pushing it. Sub £500 budget, the Huawei at Argos clearance sale is £399.

As you've found 3:2 is not a common monitor ratio at all, but there are plenty of 16:9 (or 3:1.7)

How about the 4k 27" LG 27UP850N-W.BEK

Hi

Does anyone have a fail-safe link to how to do a factory reset on a MacBook Air 2017 running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6?

I need to have macOS 11 or above to load Office 365 - which I need - but trying to update to BigSur (by downloading from the apple site and running the installer from the download) the installer tells me I don't have enough space - 37.07 free of 121.12.

I have reinstalled High Sierra (this was more about me not quite understanding what I have pressed etc).

I have rebooted pressing Cmd & R and reinstalled High Sierra from there, successfully but did no improvement. Bit concerned about deleting the disk as I have no clue what to do next!

Tempted to simply buy a new laptop but I am also quite keen to work out how this one can be updated (if it can).

I suppose the other question is can this laptop be updated to 11 or newer?

Thanks for any help!!

Try the Option-Command-R key combo to install the latest compatible version of MacOS.

Your machine supports macOS 12.x Monterey.

Hmmmm ……A bit clunky as it kept dropping the Wi-Fi but now says

About 2:19 remaining.

I guess I let this do its thing.

Ah. 3:25 remaining now!

Fingers crossed!!
