Wash your mouth out!!!! This is the ONLY torch thread!

You have many options and will be amazed at how good they are compared to a Maglight. The question is what you use it for and once that's clear advice will follow.
Just to slip in a pocket or bag for the odd occasion when I need to illuminate something smile

Inspection lamp, rather than a torch, but looks like a good deal, and useful for in the garage.

Any thoughts on what might be the issue here? TM06S with 4x Thrunite protected 18650s, those cells have had them for some time. It's been fine, but the last few charges when inserting the batteries, correct way round btw I'm not that stupid, it refuses to work and doesn't recognise the cells are there, ie no blue flashes of the button to show voltage.

Taking the cells out, reinstating them different cells in different slots eventually gets it up and running, and then it's reliable until the next charge.

All cells test ok using a multimeter, and work in other devices. Charged with an XTAR VC4. Wondering if one of the springs in the cap or body is compressed a little and contact is made better with some cells than others? But can't measure a length difference between cells.

Ok, not exactly a torch, but I guess it’s close enough

Just picked up a couple of these bad-boys from Screwfix - on sale at just £15 for 3,200 lumens

Mine came with a free tripod, but that’s stopped now they’ve run out of stock

I bought one of the little 10w versions when they were on offer for £10 about a year ago. One of the most useful household tools I've ever bought.

I picked up a couple of those earlier in the week. My local store said they had sold out the day the offer started and all the other nearby stores were also out of stock.

The single lamp does not fit easily onto the tripod, if you can see how it fits let me know.

I am thinking of attaching the lamp to the flat feet it comes with, then drilling out the central hole at the top of the tripod to allow the captive nut on the underside of the feet to recess into. Then it would just need a hole on the side of the central bar joining the feet for the spring pin to fit into. There must be an easier way.

The tripod is configured to hold two of the lamps on each end of a horizontal bar - I looked at trying to fit a single lamp to the top of a tripod, as this would probably be more versatile (I have two lamps and two tripods)

I reckon the way to do it is to drill a small hole in the side of the cross bar for the small stand that comes with the lamp - this way, it will mimic the way that the tripod cross-bar locates into the bracket on the top of the tripod pole

I’ll try it later and report back

Nigel, I am thinking on the same lines as you. The tripod box does show a line drawing of a single lamp.
I think you will also need to enlarge the central hole on the top of the tripod to fit the nut on the underside of the single lamp bar.

Spot on...

It was an easy job - ten minutes including thinking time

The horizontal bar that comes with the tripod locates with a spring-loaded pin into the side of the cross-bar, so we just need to replicate this in the floor stand that come with the lamp

Drill a 6mm hole in the side (try to get it a bit more central than I did....)

Next - enlarge the hole in the plastic top of the tripod (bear in mind that the captive nut is flanged, so you'll need to counter-bore the hole - I used a 12mm drill for the main hole and then a 16mm to widen the first couple of mm of the hole) - not amazingly neat, but it works

Next - fit to the tripod - job done

The benefit of this approach is that you can retain the original floor stand that comes with the lamp - great for when you want to nip up in the loft or just want to carry the lamp without lugging the tripod around

I find the best thing is a cheap (so it's not too bright) head torch

I use these

at £2 it doesn't matter if you break them (I find they last around a year)

Ok it’s that time of year again. The time of year I meet weirdos in the woods.

Had my imalent DN35 which is awesome if hard to find the buttons. I only use it to scan every now and again looking for other dogs,

But the battery doesn’t last long enough. I it has one battery, is there anything with same specks that maybe takes two batteries I don’t mind it being longer don’t want it wider.

Doesn't it run on a 26650? I'm surprised you're getting through the batteries quickly, but if you talk about double 26650 torches you've got to put the Convoy L6 on the 'for consideration,' list. Seems to run forever on high and turbo. I think there's also a bigger Imalent DN70, but I'm not sure if that's just a jump up to the XHP70 emitter or if there's bigger batteries too.

I've just ordered a couple of slightly different lights - I've been good so far, but I need some red lights for preserving night vision. So I've ordered an Ultrafire W549 COB type light - it looks weird but it's cheap, so I'm game to give it a go:
https://www.gearbest.com/outdoor-lanterns/pp_00984...

And another red light, but this time a keychain light - an Astrolux K1. It looks like a Nitecore TIP clone (of which I've got two, both the original with the lockout parasitic power drain.) I mainly want it for the red light but it's also got an XP-G3 (365lm) and a UV 365nm emitter. Went for the latter because sooner or later I'll end up finding a use for a UV light. And it's on a flash sale today for about £12 - not horrendous money:

How long are you out for?
Are you running it on turbo mode each time?
If so, is it on long enough to drop down to whatever the thermally stable output is – 900/700/xxx lumens?

What sort of continuous runtime do you actually need?
It’d be cheaper to buy another protected 5000mAh and charger than another torch, but if you don’t need the DN35’s throw, then look at the Rofis MR70 as a potential option.

Available all over Ebay under various brand names, these AAA torches are very bright, compact and cost as little as a quid each.

I use one all the time when I'm working nights, and it's better than any fancy torch I've bought before.

Just ordered a load more off Ebay, at that price they are disposable.

Not sure I'll ever buy another alkaline powered light again. I've got a couple knocking around (BLF-348's with a Nichia emitter) but I rarely use them. It's always been quite telling that a light that'll do 250 lumens from an AA will do 900 from a 14500 (li-ion AA basically.) Power isn't everything, but then when I do want runtime I'll just stick a high powered light into a low mode and it'll last potentially days.
