How long are you out for?
Are you running it on turbo mode each time?
If so, is it on long enough to drop down to whatever the thermally stable output is – 900/700/xxx lumens?

What sort of continuous runtime do you actually need?
It’d be cheaper to buy another protected 5000mAh and charger than another torch, but if you don’t need the DN35’s throw, then look at the Rofis MR70 as a potential option.

Doesn't it run on a 26650? I'm surprised you're getting through the batteries quickly, but if you talk about double 26650 torches you've got to put the Convoy L6 on the 'for consideration,' list. Seems to run forever on high and turbo. I think there's also a bigger Imalent DN70, but I'm not sure if that's just a jump up to the XHP70 emitter or if there's bigger batteries too.
Hmmm I’ve got a convoy somewhere l7 rings a bell though I’ll take a look at the l6

Yes of course I run on turbo smile I general have it in the lowest then every now and again full blast so I can see as far as possible. I need early warning of other dogs as my too are not friendly especially if they are surprised.

I’m genesly our 2-3 hours, shorter at the moment due to injury.

That Imalent is perfect it’s staggering really for its size I don’t think it gets anywhere near the advertised 600 metres throw maybe 400 but it’s perfect for me.

The other night as I was scanning around there was a guy just stood in the trees at the edge of the field I had to keep checking to see if he had a dog without trying to blind him. We are talking 11pm ish in a very odd location.

As I got closer I asked if he had a dog no reply, went passed just scanned back towards him occasionally and it died.

Yeah another battery I suppose would do it. I generally Cary them for other torches. Why didn’t I think of that.

Just ordered a couple off torchyboy shockli 5500 mAh that should do the trick.

Now I need more torches that take 26650 batteries.

I’m on the hunt for a new torch, requirements are:
Runs on 26650 batteries
Needs to be from Amazon
Price up to £30

I’ve got 3 spare 26650 batteries so would be nice to use them, have the charger too, but no torch to put them in.
I’ve also got a couple of 18650 batteries but no charger. The 18650 batteries go in some cheap torches I got from eBay about 5 years ago.

Need to buy from amazon as have a £25 gift voucher that I need to spend.

Want something as stupidly bright as possible, more than happy to have something that needs 2 x 26650 batteries as that would be a good size.

Use will be to sit in the house and light up the single track road leading up to the house, (just had a, presumably, drunk driver hit my neighbours wall, my drive gates then the other neighbours wall before driving off). Therefore not worried about size as wont be carrying it around with me.

The cheap eBay torches are currently running on 3xaaa batteries using an adapter as I don’t have a charger for the 18650 batteries. I could buy a charger for the 18650 batteries but would prefer to just buy a stupidly bright torch instead.

Convoy L2 £28 on Banggood

Chuck the voucher in the bin because it's more than double that on Amazon

I need a torch that is easy to carry in a pocket, can be shone from a car window and easily illuminate house numbers/names. (I'm a delivery driver)

Any recommendations ?

Convoy C8 or BLF A6. The former will let you see down long driveways (it's got good range) the latter will illuminate 3 houses at the same time from a more 'normal,' distance. BLF Q8 for something heavier that will illuminate everything within 5 streets.

Nitenumen NE01 would probably be a 'best of both,' type light though. And it recharges from a microUSB cable.

My brother in his taxi uses these type with 14500 batteries. I have 1 in my car door pocket. Has the facility to zoom so you can target the house number/name instead of lighting up the whole house.

We had a pallet of those delivered for our network of rental branches about 2 years ago, but they run on a single AA. Dirt cheap Chinese mass produced things, but they have a zoom-able.beam from a small bright square, to lighting up a the side of a 7.5t truck for checking them in and out with customers. They have been well-rated for a 99p torch!

Would I be right in thinking with a 14500 battery instead of an AA these torches would be a lot brighter? With LED does more volts = brighter?

Mine are certainly much brighter. Astonishing for their size & price, but I only paid 98p each. Batteries were far more expensive than the torches!

Where did you buy them for 98p?

So, how many lumens do these 50000 lumen torches actually have? 500?

Probably fair to say 5-600 - I've had a couple of those and for the price they are hard to fault, but they do rattle a bit, and are not very "drop resistant".

Amazon, IIRC - but it was over 2 years ago.

Thanks.

I have had a Google, and looked on Amazon, but nothing at that price (98p).

I bought these as disposable torches for my kids - 99p and IMO they are better than Mini maglites etc enough to avoid puddles / find keyholes / general use

I suspect this is 10x brighter if you're happy with 18650 £1.89

Thoughts on the Nitecore TUP? Link: https://flashlight.nitecore.com/product/tup

I have a TIP, and it’s been invaluable for outdoor stuff - much more than just a keyring light. I’ve used it as a backup mountain biking light when my main light failed. The TUP seems a noticeable amount bigger (for a light that will live on my keys) but with better output and battery life. Unsure if I can justify it, but this is PH...
Thoughts? No way I can really justify it, so I might have accidentally asked for one for Christmas wink
I like the look of it and hope to God I won't find it too bulky on my keys...
Update, a couple of months in:

It's good. I don't find it too bulky at all and the near instant access to turbo even when the rest is locked out makes it very handy for quick little jobs. Still on 3.9ish volts after charging up at Christmas and using without worrying about battery life regularly since. I would recommend it. Reasonable hot spot with nice even flood; not the best thrower by any means but it was never going to be in this form factor. I use the 65 lumen setting quite a lot. 1 lumen is enough so see your feet, 15 a bit useless IMO, 200 also rendered a bit pointless by the 1000 lumen turbo... 65 is plenty for close work and I go straight to turbo for (lots) more. I guess the 200 might be good for extended walks or similar, but I would be taking another torch for that anyway.

My wife says she can't believe I got her to spend £60 on a torch and is (still) trying to consider it as "just another techie gadget". I've not told her how much some of the others cost wink

A very timely post, as my TUP just arrived today! £37 from AliExpress, who believed it worth $5 which avoided customs.

The 1000 lumen turbo mode is incredible, and the beam feels much more focused than the Tip. A mate in the police said the Tip would be ideal for work if the beam was narrower, but the TUP at 200 lumens seems much brighter in the centre when compared like for like.

It doesn’t seem as big as I was expecting, so fits in the pocket nicely. As with the Tip, the paint is already wearing off but it just makes it seem well used.

My only complaint is that the turbo mode needs the button held down which is a real pain if trying to use it for any length of time.
