You could go back to the phone you were using in 2002? hehe

Phones do so much more nowadays. Batteries have improved, but so have the demands on the batteries.

Mines been off charge since 10am. It still shows 68% after moderate use. I can go to bed now, set the alarm and know it will still be alive come 9am when i need to get up.

Is a lot better than my Se arc.

I think the people who play itunes all day and play movies are unrealistic about battery life in general.

I have a separate ipod shuffle to take care of my music.

I deal with a couple of major phone companies in my work, have to sign NDA's and the like

The biggest thing holding mobiles back at the moment is battery tech, there is so much more that can be done already but its pointless without the power

This isn't a iPhone 5 stand alone issue. I've flown up to Edinburgh on an hour flight. On arrival into T5 at 7.30 I had 100%. Sitting on the bus 11:30 I now have 18%!!!! I've used a bit of browsing, had podcasts running and if not I've been running YouTube... Oh and on signing off its now 16%!!! 7 days ago when I was on IO5 battery life was much much better. (Btw I've done all the checks on limiting battery life)

I suspect its switching between apps.

If I remember correctly iOS only allows apps to stay alive for up to 10 minutes in the background before they go into the paused state.

Do you have LTE turned on or off?
LTE is on
I am on Orange and having LTE on or off makes no difference to data speed, therefore I assume having LTE on is a waste of battery with no benefits as the LTE networks are not operating yet.
They are where I am.

Think I've got to the bottom of it. I didn't have any programs running that were using Location Services though the symbol remained. Digging around I discovered that there was a app that uses the service even when it is not running: foursquare.

I've disabled its use of Location Services and the battery life is starting to look a bit healthier:

Thanks for the help.

I've a 5 on O2 so no LTE option.

The battery life is terrible. Using it for email, making calls and internet browsing through out the day means it's under 20% by 5pm. I can watch the battery deplete a good 2-3% just by browsing PH for 5mins over 3G.

I've turned off most of the location services stuff under system services but it hasn't really improved much.

Could be time to take it back.
That's shocking - Last charged mine at 7am yesterday morning. Moderate use and currently on 30%. Personally think the battery is much improved from the 4.

Don't get me started on the stty crappy scratchy back of the phone though...

I promise I'm not trying to troll this thread, I genuinely started watching it as a generally happy iPhone 4 customer to see what people thought of the iPhone 5 to decide if it's worth the change.

But it's so special, I had to comment. I don't think I've ever seen a thread for a new product where so many people went out and bought one, probably for several hundred pounds, and then worked out if it was any good, the battery life was ok etc.

I can't honestly think of any other forum for any other product where this would have happened!

This could have its own thread smile

I don't think it's unique to this product but I can't fathom it either. I usually spend weeks researching before I buy anything to make sure it's right for me and this effort usually pays off. I don't see any logical reason to buy stuff from a manufacturer out of little more than blind faith and loyalty.

It's the power of hype and marketing I suppose.

I think it shows the strength of the previous products. I've had a couple of iPhones and have been very happy with them. If the new phone had been more of a radical leap forward I don't think I'd have been quite so confident to dive in so early. There was no indication that battery life for instance would be noticeably poorer than previous products and having solved my earlier issue it appears that is the case.

This is a far better phone than my iPhone 4.

To be fair (iPhone 4 antenna aside) you generally know what you're going to get with an iPhone. More of the same with X small differences which Apple cover quite thoroughly in their marketing.

I had a better idea of what to expect "blindly" ordering a iPhone 5 than I did ordering the Nexus One (from the US!) or Nexus S, both a few months after their release.

Battery life is crap/fine and signal is crap/fine is bleated on about all phones after their release as it depends on network, usage and expectations.

As with any phone ordered off the web, it can be returned if it is crap.

so pissed off. I've waited 4 weeks for this phone and the estimated delivery time at 18:00 today.

had to pop to the shops at 2pm, was gone for 15 minutes and they've attempted delivery during that time!

when will they re-attempt delivery, 6pm or midnight as stated!?!!?

The delivery driver was waiting 'round the corner for you to pop out. They love winding people up, little rascals!
