Lets be honest here, the new iphone will not be a lot better than the 4.
Who cares.....it's new, it's shiny and people will be falling over themselves to get hold of one no doubt!

Unless there's a big improvement this time round, I'll be ditching my 4s for the Galaxy III

I've had my 3GS for ages now, and really fancy a change. Unfortunately there isn't much of interest out there worth switching too; especially with this new 'bigger is better' craze for phones. The 3GS is the limit in size for me, and I'd love to see an iPhone Nano. I don't think that'll happen though unfortunately!

Yer, don't know if I'd want anything bigger than the 4S I have currently, the 5 would have to be pretty good for me to consider getting one. It looked much taller in that video.

I've also got an old 3GS that's getting long in the tooth and a bit slow.
I was all for getting a 4S but I'd be peeved if the 5 got released a week later, not necessarily because I want the latest shiny thing, I'm happy having a last gen phone, but the price of older phones generally drops once they get superceeded.

What to do?

I don't see the new iPhone coming any sooner than October, so it depends if you can wait or not. It won't be released this summer.

As above, an educated guess. There's no way they'll release a new one before the 4S is 12 months old.

Won't the release of the SGS3 then tempt people who have contracts on older iphones that are expiring soon? A few of my iphone owning mates are pondering over switching to android handsets if the 5 isn't out this summer

Same for me although it has coincided with finishing my contract and I'm now on a rolling 30 day one for £8 per month. I'm just going to hold tight till the 5 is released and see what happens. I'm in no hurry, if its the end of the year then so be it. I actually still quite like my 3GS!

The 4s was even a substantial increase on the 4 IMO. I found even the 4 would struggle at times running memory intensive apps such as iMovie or GarageBand.

The more power/memory they can throw in, the better.

But what if they did?! Apple seem to be able to get away with quite a lot in this sector, example being 'The New iPad'. So the next one will be 'The New New iPad?' ..

The only Apple product I reluctantly own is a refurbished iPod touch (current generation) I refuse to pay full price for an Apple product and I've no need for any other Apple products. I believe they do indeed release products ever 12 months. The iPhone 4S was just a few months ago, so I doubt they could release the 5 just a few months later. That said, with other brands upping the game perhaps they'll bring forward the iPhone 5 to just prior to the 2012 Xmas rush? that seems likely from Apple's view, but from customers viewpoints, that's still harsh but probably many will still upgrade to it !

I guess with their inflated company valuation, anyone who purchased an iPhone 4 can have a free exchange to an iphone 5 if they do release it this month or within the next 2-3 months ?!.. but that won't happen, they'd still charge £200 or so and people would pay it !

Cheers, Dennis!

I have to admit I really to want to upgrade my 3GS to a 5 if it is really good.

I love my iPhone4 and loved my 3GS and 3G too, but I am now almost certainly going to go to the dark side and get a Galaxy Note as the 5 will still have a piddling 4" screen. After playing with my mates Galaxy Note, which has a 5.3" screen, I felt ill going back to my iPhone. I read a LOT in iBooks and can't wait to get the note now. And it still slid into my pocket easy and is really thin and light. For me one handed use was also easy.

I have loved my iPhone, don't get me wrong, but now it's time for a change. The iPhone 5 for me doesn't seem to offer what I really want now - a much bigger screen.

You've a strange perception of how things are supposedly interconnected!
What's Apple releasing the iPhone 5 on their timescale got to do with your contract with 3/O2/Vodafone/Orange?
Similarly if you bought one from Apple, just like a facelift for your car, would you expect them to swap it over for your previous one?

Have HTC or any of the other Droiders upgraded people's handsets for free because the newer version has been released - Desire to Desire HD for example?
No, if anyone has, it's been through their service provider, not the handset manufacturer.

Come on chap, think a bit before you launch into your mini anti-Apple rant.
