I'm thinking new ipods will be revealed on monday, as they haven't released a new one for a while.

I love my iPhone4 and loved my 3GS and 3G too, but I am now almost certainly going to go to the dark side and get a Galaxy Note as the 5 will still have a piddling 4" screen. After playing with my mates Galaxy Note, which has a 5.3" screen, I felt ill going back to my iPhone. I read a LOT in iBooks and can't wait to get the note now. And it still slid into my pocket easy and is really thin and light. For me one handed use was also easy.

I have loved my iPhone, don't get me wrong, but now it's time for a change. The iPhone 5 for me doesn't seem to offer what I really want now - a much bigger screen.
Point accepted about the Note, but you could sell your 4 for a pre-owned iPad 2, and upgrade to the 5 for calls and whatnot.
Reading a lot of things in iBooks surely has to be easier and better on a much bigger display?

The Note is an impressive half way between a phone and a tablet but the problem I have is that I don't want to carry two devices and my car and home audio is all set up around Apple so I would have to change all of that if I went for something else. The in car integration offered by manufacturers is so far biased towards Apple that it makes moving to Android a pain.

Think of all the apps that you've bought and won't be able to use on Android though nono That's the main reason why I haven't gone from an iPhone 4 to a Galaxy SIII

I've never bought any apps, so the switch doesn't bother me much. (I'm now switching to a HTC One S)

I am worried I will miss the iPhone, as it's been fantastic in the almost 2 years I've had it.

I'm still on my original 3G which is surprisingly just about able to hold its own against my fiancées 3GS. That said it's definitely getting on a bit. I actively dislike the iPhone 4, a big leap backwards in design IMO.

I walked into a store today intent on walking out with a samsung but it is HUGE. What I'd like is a 3G sized iPhone where the whole screen is usable (no black band round it). That'd suit me just fine.
Not sure what to get now. Those iPhone 5 previews look awful.

Yep, I don't see the 3GS being included in the iOS6 upgrade at all.

Don't you use it to make calls anymore?

I'm in the same boat, and i'm begining to think a 12 month warranty on a '5' (which I'm going to have to part with £200 on an 18 month contract) isn't such a great idea.

The 5 will really have to be a game changer to stop me jumping the Apple ship

Well, first off the Missus will be having the iPhone, natch. Reading in iBooks yes, deffo better on a bigger display - hence the Note! I don't want to lump an iPad around with me all day (I also use it for reference books at work) on top of my mobile. And anyway, what's to say my apps will even worth on the iPhone 5? It has a 4" screen so apps will need re-writing surely? Not worth it for a measly half inch extra as far as I'm concerned...

The point about apps is a good one and something I'm worried about. Can I even get apps as good in android? But again, weighing up the benefits of a huge screen and the handy s-pen (for me at least) win here.

Don't get me wrong - the iPhone is the single best gadget I have ever owned - but now I have tasted a big screen I can't go back...

Calls? I remember them... seriously though, yes. It was another thing I said to my mate - "don't you look a cock using a Note as a phone?" (I assume this is what you mean)

Now, I wouldn't say that I practised in front of a mirror holding it... because that would make me sound like a balding, sad, middle aged school teacher... but I will say I think it looks fine.

Yes, I did stand in front of a mirror testing myself on the phone and I am a a balding, sad, middle aged school teacher

hehe

It's pretty big for a phone though.

I suppose it depends on what proportion of its life it will be used as a phone rather than a computer.

it's true, it is pretty big but it's like an optical illusion. First time I saw it I laughed at how ridiculous it was to think someone would use it as a phone. After using it for a few hours it suddenly didn't look big anymore. A few days after playing with my mates one I looked at one in a phone shop and it didn't seem big at all. It's what your used to I suppose.

My iPhone now seems almost unusably small and I'm counting the days until I can get a Note.

Take a look here at a guy after a month with a Note - you will see what I mean. It's very common if you read up on them.

Every iPhone I've had (and I've had em all!) has slowed down with every new software release.

Call me cynical, but I'd say they slow it down on purpose to make you buy the new model!

I've now not upgraded my 4S since I got it, as tempting as it is to see that 'There is new software available'
