Is it safe now to upgrade to iOS 6?

you need to use WPA rather than WPA2 i think. i had a similar issue and changed security type and it sorted it1. Connections with my home wifi is patchy and just frustrating. That was my only option before forsaking security. 
Not touching with a barge pole. There is nothing in 6 that I remotely ever come close to using so why bother risking it? Oh and Google maps works just fine if you don't update.
I've been bitten by upgrading a perfectly functional 3G to a later standard - sure everything that iOS4 brought to the table like multi-tasking was disabled but the device became unusable - if something is disabled then it's disabled - it shouldn't affect performance. iOS upgrades seem to be mainly designed to encourage a new hardware purchase. Which is fair enough as they are free, just don't expect to be given anything for no reason.

As long as you've got the .ipsw file for IOS5, you can downgrade by option-clicking the "upgrade" button; it lets you browse to the firmware you want to install.Lots on the Apple forums about the above.

the ipsw is related to the phone rather than a windows/OSX thing (you'll probably need redsn0w). It's headed down the route of jailbreaking it, which is tricky on iOS6. I read somewhere that an untethered jailbreak is still some way off, but progress is being made, which I'd probably try on my iPhone 4 rather than 4S, I use the latter daily, the former can afford to be bricked if it comes to it

Sadly, that's no longer true either.If I'm supplying a dozen iMacs to a client, I can guarantee that 1 will be DOA or will die during setup and that at least one more will meet its maker during the next 12 months. I suspect that the new shape 'thin' iMacs will be even worse as everything internal appears to be bundled in the middle to make the edges appear super thin.
