I was quite surprised the Apple shop when the guy just shrugged his shoulders in a "you're fked" sort of way when I described my problem. Someone else there looked like they wanted to help a bit more but the manager took him away to deal with something else. Oh well, hopefully my new iphone will be ok - this one has lasted 2 years to be fair.
TBF, he's probably right. Until apple release a fix there's feck all he, you or I can do about it. wink

Two issues on my ipad 3 (MD366B) since iOS 6
1. Connections with my home wifi is patchy and just frustrating. Apple's 'solution' is to remove security from the network - it then remains connected. Unfortunately, as well as being plain stupid, no security means the time capsule will not connect over wifi.
2. I didn't know this till I read about it above. iMessages are received on my iPhone only, not any other devices using my apple ID. Des it need enabling somewhere.

FTR all devices have latest firmware.
you need to use WPA rather than WPA2 i think. i had a similar issue and changed security type and it sorted it

Thanks chaps, much appreciated. Seems a mixed bag of responses so I'm gonna leave it for now and wait to see if 6.1 is better received. Pretty pleased with the ipad 3 so far (aside from it not being a 4!) so no real 'need' to upgrade at the moment.

Would you believe me if I told you switching it on and off repeatedly gets it going, eventually...

Perfectly safe.

Your iPad may experience some issues, however.

Not touching with a barge pole. There is nothing in 6 that I remotely ever come close to using so why bother risking it? Oh and Google maps works just fine if you don't update.

I've been bitten by upgrading a perfectly functional 3G to a later standard - sure everything that iOS4 brought to the table like multi-tasking was disabled but the device became unusable - if something is disabled then it's disabled - it shouldn't affect performance. iOS upgrades seem to be mainly designed to encourage a new hardware purchase. Which is fair enough as they are free, just don't expect to be given anything for no reason.

On ipad 3, it's borked Home Sharing quite badly on both music and video which is its main use in our house.

Lots on the Apple forums about the above.

I think the main issue is that the majority of issues people are having after moving to IOS6 are being completely ignored by Apple, despite having numerous threads on their support forums that are heavily modded but ignored by Apple tech support. I spoke to them a couple of days ago and they wouldn't acknowledge the home sharing issues despite me pointing them to a dozen threads....

Given the option, I'd go back to IOS5.
As long as you've got the .ipsw file for IOS5, you can downgrade by option-clicking the "upgrade" button; it lets you browse to the firmware you want to install.
Is there a Windows equivalent?

the ipsw is related to the phone rather than a windows/OSX thing (you'll probably need redsn0w). It's headed down the route of jailbreaking it, which is tricky on iOS6. I read somewhere that an untethered jailbreak is still some way off, but progress is being made, which I'd probably try on my iPhone 4 rather than 4S, I use the latter daily, the former can afford to be bricked if it comes to it

No real problems on iOS6 on iPad 2, iPhone 4 or 4S from me.

What....isn't apple just supposed to work!

I got an ipad1 and its been buggered since IOS5, even before then it needed a full reset twice in the first year of ownership smile

I think as soon as you involve software, bets on Apple go a bit tits. I replaced pretty much every native app on my iOS devices with a free one from the app store that does the same thing but better. They make good hardware though

Sadly, that's no longer true either.

If I'm supplying a dozen iMacs to a client, I can guarantee that 1 will be DOA or will die during setup and that at least one more will meet its maker during the next 12 months. I suspect that the new shape 'thin' iMacs will be even worse as everything internal appears to be bundled in the middle to make the edges appear super thin.
