Which says
However the Virgin SuperHub has an option for PPTP VPN Pass Through under the Content Filter settings. Select this and it will allow PPTP pass through.
Got to be worth a look, I haven't got a super hub so can't check.

ETA - its illogical to try telneting to that port on the external port of the router UNLESS you know the firewall rule will allow it.Additionally unless you know the firewall rules out from your work firewall, you will not know if any of there ports are allowed out
Draytek support may of got confused with the 172.x.x.x address because there is a range in 172 that is private. It a class B address range
172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255
Ok fill this out

Run -> CMD
telnet 176.35.197.204 1723
You should just get a clear black box with the cursor flashing.
Ctrl] to exit.
If so you're connecting to the router OK but the handshake's going wrong somewhere.
(You might need to add telnet in the add windows features control panel.)
That seems to work...telnet 176.35.197.204 1723

Just got the same issue with Windows 7 Home Premium. Turning OFF CHAP and leaving MS-CHAP v2 enabled fixed it for me. Having both on together caused Error 734 every time.
Microsoft Support also offer a possible solution.Edited by TonyRPH on Wednesday 19th June 12:42

i think it was what roadrailer said of taking out the username and password. i then went into the properties on the connection and forgot i needed to change the security to 'point to point tunnelling' once i did that it connected! Few occasions the router was near to getting chucked out the window!!
