There are a lot of people with android phones with no google account / google play access. Its quite bizarre to me but then if they've never been told how then how are they to know?
The weird thing is, it's more difficult to set up an Android phone without a Google account than it is to just follow the steps...My 5 stopped working a couple of weeks ago and reading on here about battery replacement, I thought I'd give it a go. The new LG battery arrived this morning and I've fitted it. It started off at 44% life so I plugged it in to a genuine charger to get it up to full.
Having done a number of app updates, not only has it not charged, although the charging icon is on, the battery has now gone down. I've tried a number of other chargers which have said charging, but the battery level kept falling.
Could it be a fault with the charging port and its flex cable? I've got to the point where having fitted a new battery and got it working again I'm willing to try to get it charging as well otherwise it goes in the box of obsolete electronics. Also, I got a toolkit of pries, screwdrivers and the like so feel I'm tooled up for almost any repair.

Have you tried one of the inductive charging bases ?Having done a number of app updates, not only has it not charged, although the charging icon is on, the battery has now gone down. I've tried a number of other chargers which have said charging, but the battery level kept falling.

For anyone trying to work out how to browse the device files on a PC after the Marshmallow update - http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/125140/...
If it's the link to the one posted above either on this page or the previous, it should be genuine. I ordered one too and it has improved my battery life a little.
Only problem is, my speaker has noe stopped functioning since I farted around with it when it was open. Will need to open it up again and fix it soon. I broke two clips from the cover too. Drat.
