Im after led lighting in my coving. Can you get a 5m normal hue strip? My coving is 14m approx. What is the best way to do this. Use Hue own brand or an aftermarket?

You can get an outdoor 5 metre strip, not sure if it makes much difference. Bloody pricey though. I believe you can extend the interior ones up to 10 metres with 1 metre extensions. Again, big cost.

The annoying thing with the 2m ones and extensions are the gaps with the extenders, a good 1 inch. Im surprised Hue havent made some longer runs, there must be a big market for this.

If I purchased some decent osram strip, could I buy a hue controller of some sort?

I don’t think so. Yes, there may be gaps, but if the light is bright enough there may be some fill-in and might not be noticeable.

Amazon Prime day next week - there's usually a few Hue discounts.

I have a few runs of light strip - as above, not cheap but it does work well. I've never noticed the light gap with the connectors.

Zigbee controllers from eBay are quite cheap but I don't know if they are fully compatible with Hue.

An alternative would be to power the lights via a 13 amp socket and plug top (suitably fused) and use something like an Innr plug or Hue plug adapter.

My Innr plug top works real well via Hue.

Hue is fully Zigbee compatible these days so should work. I have a Zigbee light strip controller working seamlessly as part of my Hue set up

You can buy lightstrip in any length from ledspace.co.uk together with the Hue-compatible Gledopto controllers and the power supplies.

I've just done this with £186-worth of RGBW strip, two controllers and two power supplies. The quality is "ok" - their connectors don't fit the lightstrip very well (but are functional), the strip itself isn't as bright as an old Hue strip I've got, and the white temperature doesn't match Hue's colours in any way. But if all you're seeking is a bit of accent lighting to decorate the room then it'll do the job. I want to illuminate our kitchen worktops, and I'm not convinced the LEDSpace strips are good enough rolleyes

I have the £18 Button of Uselessness on its way. Will see if I can actually make it useful.

INNR do a 4m strip (not sure if it is expandable for £70. Only reason i've not gone for it is I need the same lighting shades as Philips Hue bulbs in the target area else it will look odd - waiting for a decent discount and I'm in no hurry (and if you're willing t wait months you can get some cracking bargains). I already use some INNR stuff (1 bulb, 2 plugs) with my Hue setup.

Amazon Prime Day sale has started

https://www.amazon.co.uk/deal/e2b6e7d1/ref=gbps_rl...

They usually change what's on offer a little bit over a couple of days.

Mainly bulbs and starter sets at the moment for around 30% off (i.e. the only price anyone ever pays!)

Hoping for a deal on a Hue Sync box, would love one but not at full price

I quite fancy one of those too

IIRC the Amazon deals are usually bundles, so would likely be a box & lightstrip if anything & I don't really need any more light strips frown

Oh well, I guess we wait & see.....

Just seen the light strip bundle deal has just gone up. I’ve only recently got into hue. Are the strips on sale often?

I’m pretty sure I got the strip + extension for 44 quid in last years Black Friday. Still, this is a good price and it’s a nice piece of kit.

Thanks, to be fair I won’t need until spring next year when I plan to get my kitchen completely redone. Got a play bar today and a few bulbs to add to the collection. It is addictive.

Tell me about it - just about every bulb in my house is now a hue - including the garden....

Going to wait until Black Friday until I buy more. I’m definitely hooked though.

Total newbie to these and I’ve become interested due to get a new home office and new gaming pc. Now looking for some lighting and suspect I’ll start with some on the rear of the monitor. From what I have read I need a light strip and bridge kit.

Anyone else used Hue for a gaming environment?

I don’t have a single hue gadget, however what do I need to buy to have the reactive lights on the telly for gaming etc, do I need the starter kit?
