Philips Hue Lighting - owners thread

Be warned there are known compatibility issues with Osram and other Zigbee manufacturers. This link is not the one I was actually looking for but does match what I had previous read when I was looking for cheaper expansion options, I'm also ignoring the fact the US Osram bulbs use a different zigbee standard to the European ones and will not work.

Those may sometimes not follow the selected color temperature (and may stutter on temperature transition), and usually don’t fade as smooth as Philips lights, but are otherwise okay.
That describes all the non-Hue lights I've tried.Has anyone ever come across a hue compatible ‘tubular’ style bulb? I am currently using a vintage style hue bulb which is ok, but the fitting really wants a proper tubular style to look its best, but I need it to dim as its really an accent light.
I could use a hue wall switch along with maybe an in-line led dimmer fitted to the floor lamp cord, but a ready-to-go hue compatible tubular bulb would be best.

Bought the single smart socket from Lidl today. I was surprised they still had any left and even more surprised that when I plugged it in the Hue app found it instantly followed less than a second later by Alexa having found it too. I bought it to control the lights on the outside Xmas tree which it is doing brilliantly living in a plastic bag under a bush in the garden. I have a few smart plugs in the house and this Lidl version is by far the easiest I have ever set up.

I love my hue lights, but one thing that really bugs me is if I leave the house alone, all the lights turn off with my wife inside.
Anyone know the best way around this? Would a smart things hub fix it?
Sounds like you have some sort of proximity setup related to your phone the is turning them off when you leave. Not something I've done - do you remember doing anything like that ?Anyone know the best way around this? Would a smart things hub fix it?
I got my wife a Hue table lamp for use as a bedside lamp. Thing is, she doesn't like having her phone on in the late evenings because various people are inclined to text or call her wanting something. So what we are looking for is an alternative way of controlling it, ideally something that would have the lamp slowly changing colours in either a random or programmed manner.
We're Hue newbies, so would be grateful for suggestions, cost is no object.

Good time for this thread to pop-up - Has anyone else's Bridge/App decided not to play nicely recently?
Couldn't connect using the official app, and then got an email from Hue saying the bridge had been reset to factory settings.
I re-set up remote access, so I can connect from outside my house, but can't connect locally

A Hue 'Button' is probably the neatest or a Hue Wireless switch or an Echo/Google HomeWe're Hue newbies, so would be grateful for suggestions, cost is no object.
I use all three on regular Hue bulbs and it works perfectly

Sounds like you have Home/Away set up under "routines" in the Hue app on your phone. You can disable that completely or set "leaving home" to do nothing. Anyone know the best way around this? Would a smart things hub fix it?

I picked up the Smart Extension Lead but cannot get it to connect. I assume I need a proper Zigbee Smart Hub e.g. Samsung Smart things or the Lidl Gateway hub. It looks like it will have to go back. I use some TP Link plugs (Kasa) to switch cabinet lights on/off and for my bedroom hifi which is inside a wardrobe, xmas tree lights etc. and they have worked flawlessly but they are bulky and make plugs stick out too far from wall.I can confirm, however, that the strip lights are excellent. I bought 3. Now, I have to figure out where to put them as I already have them around the TV and on top of, and underneath kitchen cabinets!
