£69 for 2m strip, that's not bad for LED lighting
£25 for 5m, controllable by App or Alexa.https://www.amazon.co.uk/Strip-Amazon-300LEDs-Mult...
GU10's. £7 for white dimmable. £12 for dimmable/colour temp (warm to cool white)
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/search/?k=TRÅDFRI%2...
Very slow support from Philips with a bulb that randomly turns itself off and on.
Over a month since the issue was logged with them and they've only just collected the bulb. With a bit of luck, the replacement should be here by the time the nights start getting darker again.

If you're patient you can pick sometimes pick up genuine bulbs for good prices, I bought 8 GU10 white ambient (colour temp) for 13.33 each from Amazon, they were 39.99 for a twin pack and on a 3 for 2 offer.http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/search/?k=TRÅDFRI%2...
TBH the genuine bulbs replaced some Innr bulbs I returned because 2 of them buzzed, although I was happy with the Innr bulbs and also the Ikea bulb I tried the Hue bulbs are superior no matter what people say about them being just as good, they're perfectly acceptable but Hue bulbs are better in just about every way, they dim lower, dim up and down more smoothly and have a better quality of light IMO.

I've had those before. Really cheap imported Chinese crap. Not something I would be comfortable leaving switched on. Bought a Tradfri bulb today, just the temperature adjustable. Paired fine and seems to work so far exactly the same, turning it off isn't quite as smooth, seems like it can't dim quite as low as a Hue bulb, brightness seems roughly the same.
Will be fine as a hallway Bulb. Was hoping to pick up some GU10's for the kitchen but they didn't have the temp adjustable ones. Again at half the price I'm sure they'll do the job just fine, but I wouldn't mix them with a Hue Bulb as I doubt they'd ever fully match brightness/temperature/colour.
Think I'm going to pick up a Philips dimmer switch or two soon, just so I'm not completely reliant on the app or Alexa.

Il have to get the hue sensor then. The Ikea sensor is ok but it gets upset if you turn it off at the wall switch ~ normal switch~ and then on again. The lights won’t then go out. Does anyone know if hue is the same?
No, the sensor setup has an action you can set for when it detects no motion, set this to turn off.I have an outdoor momentary switch (2 way and wired so a press cuts power temporarily) in my porch along with a Hue bulb and motion sensor. When it detects motion it comes on quite dimly however if I need more light a quick press of the switch cuts power briefly which turns the light on full, after a while the motion sensor turns it off.

After reading this and seeing one of my bulbs randomly turn off, I thought one of my bulbs may be affected.... Then I looked down and realised I just stood on the remote. Loving the Hue starter kit, wife bloody hates it so I need to talk her round.
1 in bedroom , other 2 in kids bedroom ( they love it)
Linked to Alexa and I have placed the remote in our room and it only controls our room, Wife was getting annoyed as she couldn't switch the light on, But as I understand it if you leave mains switch on, and turn Hue on, every time you use main switch light it will turn on and off. ( or you use Hue switch)
The wake up function is very cool.
Gonna get some more remotes and the Hue strip for Kitchen

Triggering the lights via a motion sensor but only when it is dark in the room stops them from messing with the light switches as they then don't have to do anything to turn them on/off. The motion sensors and a bit of thought into scheduling auto on/off really aids adoption.
Found out this week that Smartthings is now polling the Hue hub much more often so I can finally ditch using Openhab on a seperate server to poll the status of the Hue hub to see if a Hue bulb has been turned on and then trigger my z-wave switches.

Good point, my landing light can only be turned on when you are on the landing. Putting the motion sensor on the stairs means the light is already on before you reach the switch. I'm constantly having problems with turning on 'colour loop' (where the bulbs constantly change through all the colours) with my Hue lights via Alexa on my Dot. Occasionally it works, but 99.9% of the time Alexa tells me she can't do it.
I read the other day to open the Alexa app on my phone and 'discover devices', and whilst doing to press the button on the Hue bridge. Hey presto it worked, I could turn on colour loop. But after turning the lights off and back on, I'm back to Alexa telling me she can't do it.
Anyone got a solution please?

For those struggling to encourage adoption of the Hue system, I find that the little switch covers you can get on eBay work wonders. You can no longer switch the main switch off accidentally, forcing usage of the Hue switch, app, or voice control instead
No problems so far for me, and the living room Hue switch cycles through a few pleasant lighting moods to suit most scenarios.

I think this is actually a bigger issue than most people realise. Partners who just aren't into the smart home tech get quite annoyed quickly, especially when there is a reliability issue which there does happen with Hue.1 in bedroom , other 2 in kids bedroom ( they love it)
I have motion sensors in my bathroom and after a certain time they come on dim rather than bright, but my wife seems to think bathrooms should be full brightness at all times so often just pulls the cord off and on to get it at max.
She calmed down a bit in other rooms once I got the Hue dimmer switches and switch covers off eBay. It seemed a little perverse to me buying all these fancy bulbs, hubs and voice control, then spending even more on just putting battery switches back in the original spot. But sometimes it's worth spending that bit extra just to keep 'er indoors happy.
