They work equally as well in a car when connected to your phones hotspot. Audio via aux port or bluetooth to car audio system.
I am tempted to move one of my dots to a car. Only problem is - despite having 4 cars, none of them support Bluetooth audio or have simple aux in. Which means I have to use Bluetooth to FM transmitter converters. Seems simpler to just use a radio for now!

The Alexa app and amazon music app on your phone both now have voice functionality or do you not want to have to press the Alexa button?

Ah, good point - I forgot that voice control had been added to the music app (not that you're allowed to touch a phone while driving of course).

You still have to open the app and press the Alexa button though. A dot would be better for pure voice control.

Google images for echo dot in car shows some good (and bad) solutions,

I am thinking of adding an Anker Roav Viva in the car. Seems an easier solution with all the Alexa functionality?

Tried that. Useful for two person car lanes and didn't whinge at speeding. Not so great for directions.

Voice control in a moving car on both phones I've tried (both Motorola's, granted) has been pretty rubbish. I don't think it's a problem with the app, nor the phone per se - I put it down to the unavoidable background noise of a vehicle in motion. Having 4 microphones on a Dot may help deal with that (although blocking them with a cup holder probably offsets that.)

Can you pair the Echo/Dot to the car's bluetooth audio? I've never tried an Alexa device but my Android phone's google assistant works quite well when using the car's microphones.

give it a try in your car. If bluetooth does not connect, you could also try the line out connected to the aux in.

General electrical question: I've got a spare smart plug knocking around - any issue with using it for the TV? I'm assuming it's fine, but I've got an old childhood memory of not turning TV's on at the mains for some reason.

I have an extension lead into my smart plug which then has all my TV kit plugged in. No issues whatsoever my older TV you still had to turn it on as it wouldn’t remember it’s last state but my new TV when you say Alexa on will turn on.

It depends slightly on your tv.

I have most of my AV kit plugged into a standby saver - and because my Harmony is linked to Alexa, I can turn stuff on/off with voice. However - I discovered that my TV (LG OLED) does some kind of noise cleanup when you turn it into standby sometimes (think it's every 100 times or something like that). Which meant I had to stop it turning off fully, and leave it plugged into a normal socket.

Anyone else using IKEA bulbs - I've got one bulb that does something weird

It pairs up fine responds both switch on and switch off as well as dimming and brightening however if Alexa turns it of it intermittantly pulses when turned off - just very low light level but I saw it tonight after she mentioned it was doing something odd

I deleted it from the App and then re-paired it thinking that might help but after waiting for a while after Alexa turned it off it's still doing it

I'm tempted to swap it over to another room and see if it does it there - don't think there is anything wrong with the wiring but who knows
