Thought I would update this thread but just to say since the BBC skill has been added I have had no more trouble with radio cutting out.

Gawd knows why the tune in skill used to stumble so much via alexa.

RE Echo Spot, I like the idea of it, buutttttt, what will it sound like?

If it sound as good as the Echo I'd be happy, but it looks too small for that. Any ideas any body?

If it sounds as good as the Echo, I think I'd buy one even at the current price. My guess is that it will be closer to the Dot than the Echo in sound quality!

ETA : a few reviews seem to suggest it's noticeably better than the Dot but definitely not up to the Echo. I think the Show is supposed to have pretty good sound quality, so I wonder if that's a better buy (although the Spot is a nice alarm clock type size)

Interesting - it looks like the ability to wake to music was added to all the Amazon devices in December. Need to try mine when I get home!

(I'm still tempted by a Spot though)

Mines just got celebrity (grand tour voices) or the normal chimes and tones.

Tried asking it to sent a music alarm “Alexa wake me up to AC/DC at . . “ and it said “music alarms are not currently supported in your region”

OK, guess we're waiting for an update. Must be on the way though from all the articles I found saying it had been added (presumably in the USA first). I reckon it must come when the Spot is released here on the 24th? It's a key thing for something which is targeted as a posh alarm clock.

Please tell me you haven’t found another of those amazing two for £££ offers somewhere. hehe

Just checked. Amazon still showing £199 but loads of people wanting £250 odd on eBay?

I suspect he mis-typed and meant Spot (given that its release date is 24th Jan).

I'll look forward to the review!

Pre-ordered a Spot too. Finally I can ditch the clunky Pure CD DAB alarm clock radio!

Some reviews say the Spot can wake you up to radio, which I've been waiting for. I can't find any official amazon word on that feature, but I'll have a go, and send it back if it doesn't do it.

On a side note, isn't the radio player so much better since they ditched TuneIn for BBC?

Just be sure not to set your radio alarm for 11am on 11th November.

I might get a spot. It’s got some mixed reviews though but I view it as a dot with better speaker and display. A cool little alarm clock.

Most reviewers still banging on about the camera and security. Even saying they want one without it or covering it up with stickers etc. Is it really an issue?

This is not available in the UK at this time.

Wouldn't bother me. But then again, I have some cheap Chinese CCTV cameras in my house - most point out of the house, but a couple are internal. It's quite possible that the odd Chinese hacker has caught me walking around the house naked - but I bet he never logged in to the camera a second time!

From the Amazon website there’s a mic/camera on/off button on the back. Presumably this gives some privacy in the bedroom when needed.

I’m very interested in the Spot, but will wait until amazon do one of their regular offers.

Privacy from what though? People dropping in or are people worried about hacking into the camera somehow?

Dunno. Given the number of times my Dot pipes up unbidden it’s surely a matter of time before an inadvertent video call is made whilst someone’s on the job hehe
